Charlie,

I recently (last week) replaced my upper lifelines with bare stainless. I
did the lower lifelines a couple years ago. All I did was take them into
West Marine and ask for a duplicate in bare stainless. The work was
outstanding and they fit like a glove. It was pricey though. I paid just
over $500 for 57 feet of wire with a couple of fittings and a gate on each
side. This is just for the uppers. I can't remember how much I paid for
the lower, although it had to be less.

I passed by the high tech line. I think chaffing is an issue and I like the
longevity of stainless. The current lines that are used are very UV stable,
so sunshine shouldn't be an issue.

Subject: Stus-List SS wire or line for lifelines

I am considering replacing my 17 year old lifelines (wire with white plastic
cover) this year.

I like the idea of bare SS wire (long lifetime) although the hassle of the
fittings, swaging, etc. is not appealing.

OTOH, high tech line is begining to be used which eliminates the fittings,
swaging, etc. but it likely has a limited life exposed to the

North Carolina sun every day.

Opinions and especially experience from the list would be appreciated.

TIA,
