When attempting to subscribe to the v i phone list, I get a message saying I
need to be invited. I suppose they are doing this to prevent a constant member

sending me an invitation for viphone so I can subscribe, if you know how to do
that? Or am I wrong in thinking I need to be invited?

Re: Reading Chat History in Adium

2011-12-06 Thread Jessica
Can we chat off list? I'm still a new Atium user, and am having a hard time
setting it up, so could use some pointers.
I can get it to sign me onto Aim, but have put in my password for fb and
msn multiple times and it refuses to sign in, and apparently thinks it's

Hi:
I'm using Adium to participate in IRC. It's all going very well except that
occasionally I need to review the chat history. I've looked everywhere to
find it and through all the menus. Any pointers on how to go about this, if
it's possible, are much appreciated. TIA.

Hmmm, this copying last phrase sounds interesting. How long or short can the
phrase be?

I don't have AIM so can't comment on that. someone else asked me about FB and

You can set smart guides so eye tv is not a total loss as one may believe at
first. It takes just a bit of effort. I have 22 smart guides set up. You
have to interact with the unknowns but it is doable. Is ity perfect? No, but
it can work.

Eye TV comes with a remote control which lets you do some functions that
way. No feedback from VO to let you know what channel you're on but I
guess that's no different than most cable boxes.

We've used it here for a year or so, and it seems to be OK, if you
can live with the limitations. The good thing is that if you can
record something, the files are playable from finder. And
furthermore if you "show package contents" on one of the files, you
can have it export to .m4v and play it with iTunes, or vlc.

Re: accessible youtube to mp3 converter

2011-12-06 Thread Esther

Hi Gerry,

I'm still running Snow Leopard on my Mac, but if you want to try a web
site that converts to mp3, you might try dirpy:
http://dirpy.com/
You can either paste in the URL of a YouTube video into the text box,
or type in search terms to locate a video for conversion at the
YouTube site. One of the nice features of this site is that you can
both choose conversion formats and input MP3 tags (or use default
values filled in from the YouTube information.) The only thing that's
disconcerting about the process is that the conversion happens very
fast and automatically downloads without notification. Just keep your
Safari downloads window open (by either choosing "Downloads" under the
"Window" menu of the Safari menu bar, or else by using the Command-
Option-L shortcut for this). Then you can switch application windows
with Command-accent to check for the downloaded file.

HTH. This was one of a number of posts I sent yesterday that didn't
seem to make it out through mail, so I'm reposing from the web site.

Cheers,

Esther

Thanks for all the input, guys. So the only thing that's' not accessible is
the guide, yet you can set up smart guides with some effort? Is there a
hotkey to record whatever you're watching at any given moment?

Awesome. I wonder if Elgato would be open to accessibility suggestions? Or
would you say minus the guide, the app is accessible enough to use it on a
regular basis.

I really want to get rid of this Winblows box and completely switch to the
mac, but watching TV was my last hurdle to jump over.

completely inaccessible. You can watch live TV, and you can with some
mucking around set up the preferences etc, but you can't use the guide, and
therefore you can't record shows easily. You can however use the EyeTV app
for IOS, which connects to your mac, and record shows that way, but not a

We've used it here for a year or so, and it seems to be OK, if you can live
with the limitations. The good thing is that if you can record something,
the files are playable from finder. And furthermore if you "show package
contents" on one of the files, you can have it export to .m4v and play it
with iTunes, or vlc.

Has anyone had any luck with connecting their mac to a satellite or cable

of the accessibility of said software that's included with the cards, and
don't want to spend the money only to find out the software's not accessible

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Watching live TV on a Mac.

2011-12-06 Thread Mr. L. Alexander
Hi,

I'd contacted the company last year about this and they told me at the time
they weren't interested in adapting it. it meant adapting the program from the
ground up.

It may be worth getting in touch with them again though and trying once more. I
always believe in trying until it happens.

Eye TV comes with a remote control which lets you do some functions that
way. No feedback from VO to let you know what channel you're on but I guess
that's no different than most cable boxes.

a thought on this.

If anyone is going to contact the developers, point them to mac access and if
anything, compile a list of names of those who grant their permissions to
support your contact to the developer. this would give extra weight to the
case. they can contact each person if they wish for feedback or join in on this
list to learn from us.

just a thought. it's what I'd do.

Re: Reading Chat History in Adium

2011-12-06 Thread Jessica
Ok, do you have msn? I haven't had any luck signing into either/or, so
don't know what to make of that. When I try to sign into msn, it just asks
like I didn't enter my password correctly, and the same with fb, only with
that, if it happens too many times, it then takes me to a varification page
which wants me to do the captcha, and won't play the audio captcha for some
strange reason.

I don't have AIM so can't comment on that. someone else asked me about FB
and signing in so I've agreed to try that and see what happens.
Meanwhile, I've answered my own question about the chat history quite by
accident.

Hi:
I'm using Adium to participate in IRC. It's all going very well except
that occasionally I need to review the chat history. I've looked
everywhere to find it and through all the menus. Any pointers on how to go
about this, if it's possible, are much appreciated. TIA.

I really enjoy using the Eye TV app with the iPhone because of the
good accessibility in IOS 5, but I will sure be happy in encouraging
El Gato Systems to consider accessibility in an upcoming release.

So the iPhone app is more accessible than the mac software? I really don't
want to spend money on a product from them if I can't at least do basic
functions. I'm not so much concerned with the guide since apparently you can
set up smart guides, which is what I'd want to do anyway.

Hi Donna,

It's an app, but it requires hardware as well. I'm currently looking into a
solution with Eye TV, but am on the fence currently.
As far as watching TV on my actual TV, I loved having a somewhat accessible
guide with windows Media center, which is why I wanted to find a similar
solution on the mac.

Hi,

You're welcome. Unfortunately, a truly accessible television isn't a reality
yet, but if the rumors and speculation I'm hearing are true, that could

I was referring to a physical remote that came bundled with the HD USB

not a full series only individual episodes--very annoying!

We've used it here for a year or so, and it seems to be OK, if
you can live with the limitations. The good thing is that if you
can record something, the files are playable from finder. And
furthermore if you "show package contents" on one of the files,
you can have it export to .m4v and play it with iTunes, or vlc.

Hi there!
Although it is not only on the Mac over here is a company [Sky] and there sat
boxes do have accessible menus and channels and you can set things to record
[but I think ] you have to do that online!
And I'm not sure if the Iphone app for them is vo friendly but if it is then
you can also tell your box to record if you find out about a program when your
not at home!
But maybe a Sky user can say more!

Hello Rachel,

For me, the Mac detects the language without me having to do anything. In
System Preferences, in the Language&Text pane, under Text, I have it set to
Automatic by language.

shows easily. You can however use the EyeTV app for IOS, which
connects to your mac, and record shows that way, but not a full
series only individual episodes--very annoying!

We've used it here for a year or so, and it seems to be OK, if you
can live with the limitations. The good thing is that if you can
record something, the files are playable from finder. And
furthermore if you "show package contents" on one of the files, you
can have it export to .m4v and play it with iTunes, or vlc.

Re: fastforward or jumping through audiobook in itunes possible?

2011-12-06 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

If it is a properly marked AudioBook, you can do the Next/Previous Chapter by
pressing cmd-control-shift right or left arrow. You could also move forward
quicker by pressing cmd-option-right arrow. There is also a script available
on my somewhat old web-site at:

http://web.me.com/kilburns/voiceover/downloads.html

It is in the iTunes area and you'll need to read the basic instructions at the
top of the page that tell you how to save scripts for use by applications. You
can even set a keyboard shortcut to work with the script if you're so inclined
and know the process.

Re: Watching live TV on a Mac.

2011-12-06 Thread Randy Stegall
I tried doing that and the unknowns aren't buttons. If you use the tab key you
will hear, Action button pop up button. Tab again and you will hear unknown.
Interact and vo down arrow and you will hear, LIBRARY radio button. These
radio buttons act much like the iTunes sidebar with its playlists. Tabbing
again will take you to the library recording list of shows that vo calls
buttons, Hth.

Blog Talk Radio Accessibility

2011-12-06 Thread Brandon Olivares
Hi,

I created a station on blogtalkradio.com. However, I've found that parts of it
are inaccessible.

For one, it seems impossible to upload files, since it uses some sort of flash
uploader. Secondly, I have several problems in the "studio," to control the
show. It's hard to put callers live or mute them, or to play audio files, etc.

Has anyone used Blog Talk Radio? Do you have any suggestions for using it
better?

Thanks,
Brandon

Question about iPads

2011-12-06 Thread Gigi
Hi guys.
I have a question about iPads and braille displays. I thought I had this
straight, but then I figured that maybe I had something wrong here.

If you get the latest iPad there is, do you have to have a Bluetooth display,
or can you run one from USB? I thought iPads didn't have USB ports, but then
somebody told me they had one.

I thought I was out of the woods with my PacMate when Freedom Scientific sent
back my braille display. Now the PacMate itself is giving me trouble; it may
just be a simple matter of replacing the battery. However, it keeps giving
itself cold resets when it shouldn't, so it might be something worse.

Regards,
Gigi

There is no USB port on the iPad 2, only bluetooth displays will work.
Maybe you heard a rumor that the iPad 3, supposedly scheduled for
release next year, will have a USB port? I haven't heard that one, but
we know little about it and people are speculating everything.

thanks for help with word count script and for Sparks

2011-12-06 Thread Ray Foret Jr
Hi,

I just used Sparks to solve an issue which has been bothering me now for a
little while.

Download Spark for Mac - Hotkey shortcuts manager. MacUpdate.com

Just wondered what others of y'all thought of it. You may recall that, back a
week or two ago, I was fussing with the Word Count script and what stopped me
was I couldn't set up a hot key in Text Edit Because of the fact that the
option key was taken up with every other key on the keyboard for some special
symble or other. However, with the use of Sparks, I was able to set
Option+Command+w and now, hey, no trouble at all.

Thanks to all who helped in this matter, encluding Estar who suggested the
possibility of a permitions issue; whichth turned out to be accurate. thanks
also to collen who suggested Sparks as a method for solving the hot key delima.
Also, many thanks to the individual who actually sent along the script and
gave instructions how to save it.

Sincerely,
The Constantly Barefooted Ray!!!

2011-12-06 Thread Traci
Hey Ricardo thanks for that.

Do you discuss editing an existing mp3 or m4a, into a ringtone?

 Hey all.
I'm just wondering how one could go about creating a ringtone on the Mac?
I've listened to the podcast on BCT but the markers wouldn't drop where I
wanted them too in amadeus pro.
The only one I made took a combination of GoldWave on my windows VM and
amadeus to convert it in to m4r format.
 Any thoughts / alternatives?
Thanks all and have an awesome weekend.
 Matthew Campbell.
