creating extended journal encrypted partition on ntfs drive
Hi everyone, I have installed macfuse and the tuxera for mac driver so now I can read and write to ntfs drives. I want to make a superduper backup of my encrypted hd though and would like to make a partition for this on the external hard drive because i want that partition to be extended journal encrypted as is my macs hard drive. I cant seem to create a new partition with disk utility though. Is there a program I could use for this? thanks, Greetings, Anouk, -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. help with itunes
Hello everyone, I am embarrassed to say, but I am about to give up on itunes! :) I try and try, but nothing, I am starting to think it does not like me! :) Ok here is the last issue. I opened itunes and asked me for a library, I just moved my arrows to check was available and it chose a folder called audio books, the issue is in there there are only 3 files. Now, no matter what I do, every time itunes opens it is sellectedon that library, my old library was just called rachel music where all my musics are. I went to preference, there says my library is rachel music still. But the 20 gb of stuff I had is gone from my itunes. If I go to my music folder every thing is still there, anyone knows what is going on? Thanks for any help, hope someone can make my day! Re: Scanners and OCR
Hi Annie, I am planning to try fine reader soon, i have a scanjet5590 and I know hp had drivers for at least snow leopard so I am hopeful it will work with finereader natively. I hope that it also works with its sheetfeeder because my scanner can natively scan 50 pages through its sheetfeeder and it automatically scans both sides of the page. I really hope that we will see the pro 10 version of finereader for the mac soon. strange mail behavior
Hello everyone, Just this morning i could open a collapsed disclosure triangle by pressing right arrow on it, then i would see the underlying messages and could select which one i wanted to read by hitting enter on it. Now this does not seem to work anymore. I can hit enter on a conversation and it will open a message but it wont show up on my braille display. I can open all the disclosure triangles through the menu but that wont do. Is there any reason why sometimes right arrow works on a triangle and other times not, and what is the vo command to open a disclosure triangle? Re: help with itunes
Hello Rachel, First of all, I assume you opened iTunes from the Dock by pressing VO-Space. This is a bad idea as it often takes the Option key as an instruction to ask for a new iTunes library. Always open apps from the Dock with Return to avoid this problem. Now, to fix your issue, open iTunes while holding down the Option key and you should find your iTunes library in the choice of folders. Don't worry, your music isn't lost. Weather / Temperature Apple Script
Hi All, Disclaimer Those of you who choose to follow these steps do so at their own risk. I take no responsibility for any problems or issues you may encounter. These steps are straight forward but not for the faint of heart. Ok, so now that I got that out of the way lets begin. Step 1: If you do not already have it installed go to the Mac App Store and get Xcode. Once it has completed downloading go to Applications in the Finder and open the "Install Xcode" installation package. Follow all the install prompts. Step 2: Go to http://www.macports.org and get the latest install for your version of the operating system. They have Lion. Once it's downloaded open the DMG and then the PKG and follow the install instructions. Step 3: Open a terminal and at the prompt type the following command: sudo port install lynx Please note that lynx is spelled l y n x. For those of you who are not familiar with lynx, it's a command line browser. Once the install is completed and you are placed back at a prompt, command q out of the terminal. Step 4: From Utilities open the Apple Script Editor and cut and paste the following code into the edit area. --- Code Starts Here --- # Script to have Voice Over speak the current temperature. # Written by Keith Watson on September 10, 2011. # # Using lynx get forecast from wunderground and dump to a text file. do shell script "/opt/local/bin/lynx -dump http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=33617 | grep -m 1 -A 1 Temperature >/tmp/weather.tmp" # # Convert text dump from lynx to UTF-8 format. # do shell script "/usr/bin/iconv -f ISO-8859-1 -t UTF-8 /tmp/weather.tmp > /tmp/weather" # # Have say parse the text file to Alex or your voice of choice. # The -r value is in words per minute. Re: more system sound feedback?
For those of you who have been following this thread…I have solved my hardware growler issue. For those who care, I don't think it is a good solution but, here it is… I have to keep hardware growler running. Unlike growler mail or growler Safari, you actually have to have hardware growler running on your system in its own window. If there is a way around this, so I don't have to tab through it all the time, I would love to know it. In the mean time, things are working as expected. iTunes, radio presets
Hi all, I've seen a few posts on this list for radio and radio apps. I've googled them myself, because I liked both winamp and radio live365 on the windows side. I decided to play around with the radio more in iTunes. Surely, I could make this work for me. Keep in mind, I still consider myself a newby, but here's what I did! *grin!* I created a couple playlists, which I decided to name as follows: rClassical, RJazz, and rOldies. I figured r for radio, and I could quickly jump down to them. I then went over to the radio and began finding the stations I wanted. Any station I liked, I copied it and pasted into the corresponding playlist. Some stations I couldn't find, so I found their URLs, and pasted them into iTunes. I then needed to VO-J to the lcd section and hit the go to song button, this is where I copied and pasted into the corresponding playlist. In effect, I now have presets set up for a good handful of radio stations I like. It isn't perfect, but so far, it works fine for me. BTW, I haven't figured out live365 yet. I thought I'd email them and request a mac app. There app works great on the iPhone and iPad. Hope this helps some, TC all, Traci -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Hardware Growler, was more system sound feedback?
Here is another possible solution I found. Website: http://gigaom.com/apple/best-kept-secrets-hardware-growler/ Depending on where you decided to install Hardware Growler, either open /Applications/HardwareGrowler.app/Contents/Info.plist or /Applications/Utilities/HardwareGrowler.app/Contents/Info.plist add the following two lines after the line: LSUIElement You will need to quit and re-start Hardware Grolwer for this setting to take effect. Next, to make it even easier to ensure Hardware Growler is running after you login, go to System Preferences > Accounts and add it as a "Login Item" and check the "Hide" checkbox just for good measure. Let me know what you all think. Unexpected behavior with iTunes and playing mp3 files
Hi, guys. I was looking at my iTunes music library last night and realized that every mp3 file I had played or opened was now in my library. Most of these were audio files or podcast files I had opened. I don't recall ever seeing this with the windows version. Since anything audio opened on the mac is going to be played with iTunes, is there any way to tell it not to add it to the library; just play it? I also have vlc on my system, but I don't see any way to Tell the mac that any mp3 file opened should be played with vlc rather than iTunes. You can use open with, but that doesn't mean that every mp3 opened from then on will be played with vlc. I don't want to have to keep cleaning out my iTunes music library. Any ideas? Re: grade 2 braille files
Hi Annie and Teresa. For the Mac, at present I can only see one solution, that Apple adds a computer braille option to VoiceOver. I made this suggestion to them by writing accessibil...@apple.com because in the future I will need to replace my PacMate which is five years old with heavy use. I could install Windows and Jaws on my Mac. Then I can run WordPad If I get desperate, I might. However, I'd rather not. Depending on how things go, I am thinking of getting a Bluetooth braille display along with an iPad. Luckily, I don't need to do that now, but it's something to think about. solving visual captchas with mac and safari
Hi everyone, On the pc I could solve visual only captchas with either solona and ie (but often there was no operator online) or webvisum and firefox. Is there a way to solve visual captchas as a blind person on the mac? As far as I know firefox is still not accessible on the mac. navigating the vo getting started guide with webrotor
Hello everyone, Today i started refamiliarizing myself with the vo getting started guide, i lost focus at one point and because the sections are full with headings i wanted to navigate with the webrotor to the right heading, so i selected the one i wanted with vo space but i didnt get dropped at the right point in the document. Is something wrong with headings in the webrotor or am I doing something wrong here? Re: Such a small selection of sounds
Oh, I change other formats to .aiff. Ya know, if I have wavs or mp3s. I created a sounds folder under the hd/library folder. You can put it inside the sounds folder inside the home library folder if you'd like. I chose the hd/library because then the sounds are available to all users. Re: navigating the vo getting started guide with webrotor
Hi, yes there is a very handy html version. If you have mac os x installed press vo+h and get to the last item in the menu getting started. This will bring up the up-to-date html version of the guide in safari. You can also access it through www.apple.com/accessibility although that takes a bit longer to find. complete newsreader solution for mac?
Hello, I dont miss a lot about my 1.5 years of solitary windows use but I do miss newsbin pro, a newsreader that can browse through groups the old fashioned way but also has an nzb search engine built in and can directly download stuff you find through it and then automatically combine stuff so you only see the file you want to see without having to do a lot of parring and stuff. I know panic! had a newsreader solution for the mac but that it is not free, became less accessible by the end and that you have to do the par stuff yourself. Are there any other newsreader solutions for the mac now? sabnzb seems popular on windows and can do a lot of stuff automated but does it also work on the mac? Re: Ripping cps with Amadeus?
Hi there, Yes it does, and it does it very well. After trying to use ITunes with no success, I broke down and actually read the Amadeus manual. It's around page 52 where it explains how to convert tapes and records to CD. First, place and name markers where you want different tracks. Don't forget to put a marker at the very beginning of the file. Then, if it's a two track stereo recording, go the sounds menu and flatten the file. Then go back to the sounds menu and Burn the file to a CD. The option is almost at the bottom of the Sounds menue. Amadeus can automatically put a two second blank spot before every track. Also, the recommendation is that you do all of your editing in the Amadeus format which is true CD quality. Happy recording. I use UTorrent as well and I don't know if transmission is still accessible. Also, I've always found torrentz.com to be kind of a pain. I use bitche on windows and that'd be nice if there was something like that for mac. bitche is an apple which scours the internet for torrents and presents them in a list view and you can right click them and select save torrent, open torrent, etc. On Sep 10, 2011, at 4:23 PM, Anouk Radix wrote: > Hi everyone, > I am now using utorrent on the mac in combination with torrentz.com but was > wondering if any of the other torrent clients out there have become > accessible on the mac and then especially ones that combine searching with > downloading like for e.g. vuze? > Thanks in advance for any information, > Greetings, Anouk, > > -- > You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups > "MacVisionaries" group. > To post to this group, send email to macvisionaries@googlegroups.com. > To unsubscribe from this group, send email to > macvisionaries+unsubscr...@googlegroups.com. > For more options, visit this group at > http://groups.google.com/group/macvisionaries?hl=en. > -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. opening directory in vlc
Hello everyone, I listen to a lot of radiodrama that is organized by series in one folder per serie. In windows I used foobar2000 where I oculd open a folder and listen to all the files in it or even all the subdirectories and files. I thought this was also possible with vlc but cant find the command to open a folder, can anyone help me? I would rather not use itunes because I dont want to create a library. Re: opening directory in vlc
It's the standard command O. This will bring up the open file dialog that you are used to. If you press enter on a folder it will load the entire folder as a playlist and start playing the first file in the list. Far more efficient than ITunes especially if you press command S and save the playlist so you can just open it from Finder and not even have to worry about the open file dialog. Hum, well possibly because the mac client started development at least 5 years after the windows one, probably more. nzbdrop was:news reading on the mac
Hello, I went in search at the app store for newsreaders and nzb related applications. Unison is still there but when i checked the webpage nothing much had apparently changed. I havent tried sabnzbd yet but found nzbdrop in the app store. It seems to automate a lot of stuff and even include search engines but it is also rather expensive and havent seen a demo possibility yet. Has anyone tried it/found it to be accessible? Re: Problem with VoiceOver not starting in Lion
Hi list: Here's an update to my situation. Previously, I could not get VO to start after I booted up into Lion. Well, I got an old monitor, plugged it in, and, now, VO comes up just like it should. Don't know why this should make a difference, but, it does. One other note: Lion was not saving my keyboard preferences, but, now that I hooked a monitor up, Lion is now saving keyboard preferences, as well. So, for anyone else wanting to run headless, you might want to find an old monitor that no one wants. This one isn't even hooked up to electricity, but, it still seems to make a difference. Hope this helps. On 7/30/11, Ray Foret Jr wrote: > The comApple Extra thing still happens to me every single time I start my > Mac book Pro. If there are any Mac Mini lion users out there, could you try booting up without your display plugged in and see if VO comes up? If it doesn't, you should be able to hit cmd-f5 to get it to come up. It's not enough to turn the monitor off, it needs to be disconnected to duplicate the conditions I'm working under. If this happens, can any of you suggest a work-around? I can get an old monitor and physically connect it. It doesn't work, but, should provide the hardware functionality needed to correct this problem, if that's what it is. Re: Hardware Growler, was more system sound feedback?
The two sets of instructions do exactly the same thing, they modify the properties file of the application which is sorta kinda like the registry in Windows, though by no means as global. So using the defaults command adds a new item to the appropriate plist file using Apple standard operating procedure and editing the plist and adding in a couple of XML codes will do the same thing. There is also a program in the developer tools that allows you to examine and edit a plist file as though you were perusing an Outline. Re: Weather / Temperature Apple Script
I don't believe you need to actually use lynx for this... And if you don't need lynx then you don't need the developer tools and a UNIX port program (macport and/or fink). The Macintosh has built-in for the command line the curl command that can take a ftp and/or an http request and download (and possibly upload) a file or set of files. So you should be able to replace the lynx command with a slightly different curl command. Also, AppleScript has had for over 10 years the ability to directly retrieve URL's in the standard suite. I find that sometimes a disclosure triangle is "part of a group" (like in the mailbox list in Snow Leopard. In these cases, you need to interact with the group before the right arrow will work. Moving iTunes Library from windows to Mac
Hi All I amin the process of moving my iTunes library from my windows machine to my MBA. I only have a 128Gb drive in this Air so don't want to move the whole So far I have move the music I wanted to just by sharing the iTunes library on my old laptop and then accessing it and importing on to the Air. Now that I have done this, is it possible to get all the other data associated with the songs like play counts, etc. I am guessing that I should have done the import a different way in the first place. Also is there a way to import the playlists? Thanks for any assistance. Garth -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: solving visual captchas with mac and safari
Safari is the primary browser for OSX but some people have found that the nightly build of Webkit (the engine of Safari)vhas less issues. Of course nightly build means each day some stuff is fixed but other stuff might be broken. You might also try Chrome which is supposed to be accessible with voiceover as well as Opera. husband accidentally created disaster
Help guys! My husband, who is good with computers, but has limited knowledge of the Mac, accidentally erased everything I had on my iPhone. I had gone to the Apple store and had done some purchases on iTunes. When I got back, I found they weren't on my iPhone. I couldn't figure out how to add them on there, so I asked my husband if he could figure it out. Big mistake. Now I have everything I bought today but minus what I had before. Re: solving visual captchas with mac and safari
I must agree, many sites are now audio captcha enabled but a lot of them are pretty hard to understand. Re: Hardware Growler, was more system sound feedback?
Hi all, This worked like a charm for me as well. It has brought up another questions though. Is there a way where vo doesn't say growl helper app each time growl does something? I plugged in a USB drive then ejected it, and both times vo said growl helper app. Thanks, Traci - Original Message - From: "Jon Cohn" To: Sent: Saturday, September 10, 2011 6:07 PM Subject: Re: Hardware Growler, was more system sound feedback? The two sets of instructions do exactly the same thing, they modify the properties file of the application which is sorta kinda like the registry in Windows, though by no means as global. So using the defaults command adds a new item to the appropriate plist file using Apple standard operating procedure and editing the plist and adding in a couple of XML codes will do the same thing. There is also a program in the developer tools that allows you to examine and edit a plist file as though you were perusing an Outline. Next, to make it even easier to ensure Hardware Growler is running after you login, go to System Preferences > Accounts and add it as a "Login Item" and check the "Hide" checkbox just for good measure. Re: solving visual captchas with mac and safari
good luck using mozilla. they have repeatedly refused to abide by apples terms when it comes to the voiceover api. they keep blaming apple and apple says they have to abide by the apple developers license. until mozilla pulls their collective heads out of said asses, we are not going to see an accessible version of firefox anytime soon. -Eric On Sep 10, 2011, at 6:06 PM, Christine Grassman wrote: > Great.
