My system is a bit simpler than Mark's. https://www.dropbox.com/s/nzz6898hr97822h/fuel%20system%20001.jpg?dl=0

I simply draw fuel from tank to shutoff valve to pumps to pressure regulator to gascolator to carb.

I can pump from either tank or both using one or both pumps in series.  I use both for T.O. and landing and one continuous in cruise.  I have a small 4 AH battery backup system in case of main buss failure.  Used it once to save my bacon when main electrical buss went dead.  Simple backup system check is a "pre-start" item, i.e. flip a switch and see if I have fuel pressure.  No pressure is no-go item.  Works well except the time or two I shut off both tanks in flight.  That gets your attention real quick.  I never switch tanks except at altitude.
