That is correct as with anything with weight attached to the aircraft.
The closer to the desired CG location the better. My tanks are in the
area 10" behind the main spar with most of the weight in the CG
envelope. Other than the weight I can't really tell what my fuel load
is from how how the aircraft handles. Pitch forces remain almost
constant from full to empty tanks.
