I believe that the reason we use the acronym PMC is that it's (much) easier to type than Project Management Committee. And similarly, especially for those for whom English is not their primary language, Member of PMC is a whole lot harder to type than MPMC. I also did a bit of scrolling through PMC onboarding messages and found many examples where the PMC member inviting the new MPMC misused the PMC term. When I investigated the onboarding process for new PMC members I found several cases where the invitation to the new PMC member explicitly referred to the new PMC member to "become PMC" instead of "become a PMC member".
