Not at all,

  a lot of woodworking machine operate at these speeds.
I generally cut at 4000mm/minute and I often do facing at 8000/minute.
I know people that have the same machine as mine dp facing at 28000mm/ 
minute.
I cut less fast because I have a router and not a stronger spindle..

Ian, it's good for yourself to start thinking in speeds of mm/minute  
rater then per second.
I myself started to think in mm/sec, because I can visualize that  
easer, however
most CAM software and also Axis displays speed per minute and not per  
second.
Else you end up with very very slow cutting speed!
