Next time simply turn Voiceover off with a triple click of the side button or if Siri works by telling Siri to "turn Voiceover off" and then to "turn Voiceover on". I suspect that you did mute Voiceover like somebody else suggested and a 2-finger tap with 3 fingers would have resolved the issue.
