Thanks for all the congrats. Yes, it will be odd to have all those cogs,
mechs and cables cluttering up the frame. But at 55 it is probably unwise to
take my first long distance loaded tour on a single speed. And heck, if I
ever decide to fixify it, I can always take Dremel and hacksaw to it.

Yes, that's the intention, I like the heat application issue. My regular
Keens fit the same as my other shoes, 10.5. I think I'm going to keep them

Oh, that alignment. Since there's only one way it'll fit, I don't even
think about it much. Insert wheel, twiddle with cassette joint until anti
rotation washers are aligned properly, stuff washers into dropouts, tension
chain, etc.
It's tedious, but I haven't found it to be overly complicated.

complaints of my family). Conti Ultra Gatorskin 26" x 28s are the skinniest

I like Dirt Drop stems a lot but think they really over power the
bike. I hope whoever gets this considers a more elegant stem. Of

Axle alignment technique? I haven't heard of that one before. Usually
I just tension the drive side, apply enough torque to hold the
position, screw down the non drive side, tighten the drive side, then
tighten the non drive side. Am I missing something?

I have this (as do others on the list) bike in a slightly larger size. Note
the sale bike has 26" wheels, in case this matters to you. The bike is NOT a
custom (it is prior to the era of custom Rivs), and the ad copy contains other
minor errors. The frame set has been great for me. Id say it is

when I ordered my Atlantis frame in 2007, i also ordered a 107 bb per
a Riv employee's suggestion. with the sugino xd2 crank the small 24
ring was way too close to the chainstay. i called Riv, talked to
another employee, and he recommended a 110-113mm spindle for the
sugino xd2.

IME the Shimano 8sp hubs are just fine, though I recommend regular
maintenance, since water, grime, and corrosive elements do get in and
cause problems. If you are accustomed to single speeds and dérailleur
bikes that are decently maintained, and you are inclined to vigorous
riding, the IGH may fee

OEM. The bike in question was a Surly Cross Check. Getting the
tension right and having the little anti-twist tab was just not
right. Often ended up with too much chain tension.
On that bike, because of my gearing choice, ended up needing a half-
link to get decent tension.
