Well.I am 260 pounds now maybe 265 darn it and I ride 36 spoke rear and front wheels and have for over 14,000 miles. If you use wider tires maybe 38-40mm and are careful I'll bet you could ride on smooth roads without too much strain on the frame however an Atlantis or a Bombadil would be

Brian, FWIW I have bikes with similar set ups, after changing from drop bars to Albatross bars on an All-Rounder I also changed the saddle from a B-17 to a Flyer (basically a sprung B-17). The upright seating postion works better for me with a sprung saddle, with drop bars I'm ok either way.
