I've done both the one and two day Seattle to Portland rides over the past several years in MUSA shorts and knickers. That ride is in July, and I've worn either the Devold wool boxer-briefs or Ibex briefs underneath, using Brooks B-17 or Selle Anatomica saddles, Rivendell bikes (Quickbeam, AHH, Saluki), everything from Ruffy Tuffy to GB Hetre tires, etc. No troubles here, though your mileage may vary. Many of my rides are in the 40-70 range, and wool + baggies always works. I own lots of bibs and shorts from racing days, but they only get used on the ergometer at the office over lunch, and they don't smell very good clean or otherwise.
