While the video is playing, just hit command-i or choose it from the window
menu. It will be in the general tab.
You are just using VLC to get the true address of the file so you can open it
directly in Safari where you can download it.

What i don't like with Downie and i consider that almost to be a show stopper
is that you can't search for videos from within Downie as you can with
Mactubes. That, imho is an invaluable feature so now i have to use Mactubes and
Downie in combination because i think the youtube site is messy

undownloadable videos and I even went searching a few weeks ago to see if a new
version of MacTubes was out; as I recall there wasn't. But I haven't found
anything better and searching and accessing is incredibly easy.
Sounds like you answered your own question Ray. If there's something better
than mac tubes, I'd like to hear about it. Nothings perfect, but Mac tubes
comes pretty close. It's excess ability is very very good.

know of multiple ways to do it on Windows, but haven't found a successful

When you say webkit, you're talking about the nightly builds and not the
regular Safari browser? If so, what happens in Safari? Are you opted in
on the youtube html5 video trial? If not, goto youtube.com/html5 and opt

This has been a recent development. If I click a youtube video link while in
Facebook, or anywhere for that matter, I go to the Youtube page, but can't get
the video to play. I see no where on the page to make the video play. I end
up launching VMware Fusion and opening the video in Internet
The Apple TV has a YouTube app, no website access really.
You can sign in to access your favorites or subscriptions via this app on
the Apple TV.
You can also stream from any computer using AirPlay from inside iTunes via a
wi-fi connection. No cables needed at all.

Can one play Youtube videos accessing Youtube website directly from Apple tv,
or does one need to stream them from a mac computer using airplay?
Also, as an aside question, I have a late 2010 macbook air. I have read
