Well, I can tell y'all this. After having tried then bought Downie, you can't find a better youtube downloader for Mac. Well worth the $14.95 you'll pay for it. Yes, to give you the straight answer to your question, you can have Downie process the file so that all you have is an mp3 audio file. The way cool thing too about Downie is this. You can configure it in such a way that, once you have the extension installed, you can open a video from inside youtube, and then, you can go to the very left end of the tool bar and click on the "open with Downie" button. Better yet, you can set downie up so that the minute a video URL is opened, donwload automatically starts without you having to do a single thing!!! Downie will load to your Mac videos from youtube which Mac Tubes will not. This I can personally verify!!! So, where to get it? Here:
