So although she wants to be a maintainer, and finds studying how to be one
from manuals difficult, she is not going to ask for a mentor.
So often, women are their own worst enemies. :-(

I agree we need to be inclusive, but lets keep politics out of Debian.

The reason that you can't get all the subtleties is that there aren't any.

If you can stand it, read as far as the reference to rape. (Apparently we
have no reasonable right to complain at any thread which stops short of
discussing rape.)

I am moving this to the Debian list, since, after Stephen's kind reply and
some more effective Googling, it appears to be a software problem after all,
and perhaps a bug in Lenny.

Motherboard is an Intel D815EEA
The USB is a 4 port card, probably PCI.
Can anyone tell me what is going on?
All suggestions very gratefully received.

level on the things that are set is easy, but I can't get capture to respond
at all.
I have googled, and tried man alsamixergui. But all I can find are
instructions to make use it - but nothing on how to do so! Nor how to
interpret the data.
I have turned on capture in kmix - but it d
put to the mobo sound card. I finally
learned to switch the alsamixer to capture (tab) and try different
capture choices (arrows, space bar) until I found the correct setting.

My not understanding may be because I panic, because I have a blind spot,
because I am thick; but whatever the reason I am left unable to help. And
when I have questions to ask, I don't ask on the Debian List.
Now where's that nice safe parapet...
