Curiouser and curiouser... When I run modprobe OSS from a terminal inside a GUI, I get the result above. When I run it from the CLI, having booted from the CLI, I get # modprobe OSS # Why would OSS be there if I run from the CLI, but not if I boot into a desktop environment?
