I've got a Del Optiplex GX260 with a USB mouse. When I boot up, gpm
starts before the USB mouse driver stuff kicks in, therefore gpm doesn't
see the mouse. After I get logged in, I can then run "/etc/init.d/gpm

I use mp3burn. It's command-line based, and uses other programs to do
the actual work. You can apt-get it.

You can try zeroing the MBR (not including the partition table) and rerun
grub-install. Try the following:
dd if=/dev/hda of=mbr.bak bs=512 count=1
this will make a backup of your mbr including the partition table. Then run:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/hda bs=443 count=1

I've been noticing some very strange problems with my primary desktop. I
normally don't shut ever shut it off and everything works great. No
crashes, no lockups, no instability. However, any time I shut it off for
a while before turning it back on, it becomes extremely unstable. It
