For one of the Debian kernels that "works", copy /boot/config-2.4.20<whatever> to /usr/src/linux/.config, and do "make xconfig". In "General Setup" note what's turned on, and what's turned off. Now copy "fig" back to /usr/src/linux/.config (yes, overwrite it). Do "make xconfig" and duplicate the power management settings that work in the Debian kernel.
