How are the permissions set? You should have execution permission to execute
the file (this is the 'x' bit in -rwxrwxrwx ...)

My home network currently has 3 Debian machines (running frozen potato)
and I've been trying to setup Heimdal's (version 0.2l-7) Kerberos 5 realm
to work between those machines.
Once I figured out that heimdal's packages don't create correct
/etc/krb5.
When I try to 'startx' my X program will start,
however it gets to a grey screen and has a cross in the middle of it, and it
pauses, ive tryed various setups in xf86config. and nothing seems to work..
I use a nVidia TNT2 Riva 32meg AGP, something along
the lines of that..

It means what it says, the database is more than 8 days old. When you do
'updatedb' it indexes your filesystems and puts that info in
/var/lib/locate/locatedb' to speed up the search.

Which version of findutils do you have installed? findutils-4.1-40 is
the preferred version. If you are using certain older versions,
updatedb will not run on a daily basis.
Usually, /etc/cron.daily/find is run every day, which updates locatedb.

For potato, you need libstdc++2.10-dev rather than libstdc++2.9-de

I made an upgrade to woody. I use fetchmail to fetch my emails
from different pop3 servers. I use procmail to filter these.
Everything was ok on potato. Now I can fetch my mails, but fetchmail
doesn't give any info (it did on potato), and when a downloaded mail
goes to procmail the following m
Samba is pretty easy and well-documented, if any problems occur, just mail
them but I don't think samba will cause much trouble.

last night i downloaded it. i was having problems with apt-get returning
errors that kernel-source-2.2.14 wasn't there, but they seemed to get fixed
as time went on. i think there might be some backend manipulation going on
that momentarily makes it unavailable.

Yeah, been there. You just need to install the corresponding library
from either the X or the oldlibs section, I forget which, of your
Debian release. Try maybe dselect, [S]elect, slash to search, "libX
