If anyone wants to sail to the Corsica River on 9/22, my club is putting on a
crab feast. Last year the crabs were AMAZING. I need to have a count in by the
12th. Sorry about the last second invite, but I know we have a few boats in
range of the Corsica that might enjoy this.

Why race with a furler? Has your PHRF rule changed to allow a sail change
while still taking the furling credit? Or more credit for the furler than
before?
(Our Chesapeake Bay PHRF hasn't changed either of these that I know of)

Exactly. The rule changed. Working roller furler headsails can be changed

Engine question. Have a Yanmar 3GMF20. Noticed this weekend the exhaust started
sounding "like its hissing or more air with the water". Last few weeks it
sounded a little different, but thought that since my slip changed at the yacht
club I back up close to a bulk head and possibly just more so
Exhaust mixing elbow should be replaced, mine did the same in August and
the EME was the culprit..

I've read that the elbow can be removed and soaked in muriatic acid to
dissolve the clog. Has anyone tried it?
If you remove the hose leading into the elbow and measure the water flow
and then measure it (or guesstimate) at the exhaust and there is a
difference, it is the elbow or the nipple into
Sent mine to a radiator shop and even they failed to remove all of the
exhaust deposits. Save some time, trouble & money and just replace with
newand don't go cheap, replace the stainless steel coupler as well.

Okay,
Made the trip the Martha's Vineyard and back but needed Tow BoatUS to get home.
We had our share of boat issues. Stuffing box nut came loose and we took on
some water on the way out and then one of my bilge pump hoses clogged. I got
all that sorted out and made it to Vineyard haven with

I replaced mine when the cable got frayed. I pulled the pin from a block to get
slack in the cable, undid each end from the quadrant, and pulled it out and
took it to a rigging shop. Not really too bad of a job. I am sure it is a pain
to do in a seaway, but if you got the cables off the tiller w

EDIT - Just pulling the pins might have given you enough slack to steer .

Maybe do the PSA Queenstown Race and then on up to Corsica for the evening?
There is a non-CBYRA sanctioned cruising class start, too.

I found that PB Blaster and one of those tools you hit with a hammer and it
turns a screwdriver to be the ticket. Took a small sledge and a number of bumps
with it to dislodge the screws, along with the heat from a wood stripping gun.
All three nothing else worked.

There are ample opportunities for problems in the raw water cooling system.
The easiest to check is the nipple on the exhaust elbow. If it was

Possibly there's more vibration when the boat's in gear?
That is, when you're at the dock at modest rpm, there's not enough
shaking going on to spring a leak. Then when you've got it in gear at
2800 or so, you might just crack a seal or a bolt that's backed itself
off a turn or two.
Just an idea
How about the stuffing box? When I bought my current boat, it dripped a
little more than normal in neutral, but really opened up when the diesel was
in gear. It sprayed the entire engine compartment.
