Selecting Messages in iOS Mail
Hello all, Is there an easy way to select a bunch of messages in iOS Mail on the iPhone to perform actions such as mark read, Move, Delete, etc? I see an Edit option, but when I clic'k this I am able to select one message at a time. I can't figure out a way to select multiple messages. Does anyone know of an easy way to do this? Hi Joseph, I'm running 15 here and don't see a Select all option when the edit mode is enabled. I've never done this before on iOs 14 so am not sure what to expect here. I may give Apple a call regarding this later today. This is interesting to say the least. Re: Recent Siri Changes Remove Call, Email, and Voicemail Features Used by Low Vision and Blind Users
As the president of the CFB, I see a lot of older people who use these features. I understand that we should all do our best to learn the iOs interface but we also have to understand that a lot of older people just want to get the basics done. Even accomlishing the basics on these devices can be quite a difficult task for many users. A prime example is writing in braille screen input′ A lot of people are just simply not going to get that far. Even simple tasks such as learning the concept of singgle and double tapping is a major learning curve for a lot of this demographic . Re: Recent Siri Changes Remove Call, Email, and Voicemail Features Used by Low Vision and Blind Users
I also prefer to use a keyboard as well. I only use Siri for the most simple of tasks such as a fast way to open an application or using it on the Apple watch to get my location if I realized I passed a street I was supposed to cross. So I'm not a Siri expert by any stretch of the imagination. Having said that, I agree these features need to be available for a demographic that need them. I really enjoy this discussion. Re: Recent Siri Changes Remove Call, Email, and Voicemail Features Used by Low Vision and Blind Users
All of these assistants will always have to go to the cloud to get something. The main problem I see is that some of the older demographic, who prefer a device that has buttons for doing things, have a great deal of trouble adjusting to a touch screen environment. These people would be satisfied with something resembling either a candy bar or flip phone. If they could use a telephone keypad and get voice feedback they would be happy. I don't think any of the major carriors in canada cary such a phone. I can never get iCloud to work from the Windows side. I eventually gave up on it from a Windows perspective. Re: copying text on an iPhone
Hi Lorie, Yes you can do this. 1. Use the iOS roter and navigate to "Text Selection" 2. Swipe down and you will hear a number of options related to selecting text. I just chose Select all and the text of the email minus the signature was selected. 3. Now roter to "Edit" and choose "Copy". Let me know if this helps. Re: copying text on an iPhone
To add to this, if you select characters, words, or lines as options, you have to then swipe right and you'll hear the text as it's being selected. You can then roter to the "Edit" option and select "Copy" to copy it to the clipboard then navigate to another app ,and paste it their. Here is part of your email I copied using this method. To be quite honest that's what I figured. They talk about using images to convey certain aspects of the language learning. Getting live regions on a web page to automatically speak?

Using Dragon Express with VoiceOver?
Hello list: I just purchased Dragon Express for the introductory price of $49.99 and can't figure out how to go about accessing the program. There is supposed to be an icon in the menu bar but it is the usual problem where VoiceOver can't access it. Any other way to access this program? I'm very interested in trying it out. How to share an Internet connection on the mac?
Hello list: I've never had to use this since I got my mac. In fact, I've never had to share an Internet connection in the past 10 years or so from a computer. I know this should be quite simple. I go into Preferences, select sharing, and navigate through the table of sharing items until I see Internet sharing. I find this but the check box to turn it on is dimmed. What I want to do is share a 3g USB modem and use WiFi to connect my two iPhones. Anyone know why the check box for Internet sharing would be dimmed? Is something done in the software that is installed on your system for these USB modems to disable Internet sharing? Re: statusbar in 10.9.2 mavericks
Hello all: I'm getting the same problem here as well. I've got two third party items in my status bar. The first is the dropbox icon and the second is the icon for 1Password Mini. If I Vo+Space on Dropbox I get the window opening sound and hear the word "app" which is then cut off. The window closes too fast for the screen reader to render the message. If I press Vo+Space on the 1Password Mini icon I get the 1Password dialog where I can enter my master password. So it seems like the problem is with the DropBox application and not with the OS. Re: Accessible Packet Sniffers?
Hi Alex, I don't know of a Mac specific utility, but I used to use a console utility called "mmap" quite a few years ago when I was doing a lot of experimenting with Linux. I don't have the links handy but do a search for a package called home-brew. It is a packaging system for Mac OS that will allow you to install a huge list of unix utilities that Apple does not provide. Nmap may be among the list of packages available through Homebrew. You can find Homebrew through Github. This is with contractions on. if I turn contractions off, then I have to type the of sign and the with sign to make it work. So does anyone know why dot 4 GH or dot 4 AR will not work? Thanks. Re: using voiceover in terminal?
Have you agreed to the Xcode license? To do this do the following: >From a terminal prompt type "xcodebuild -license" and press enter. The unix >'more' command will display the Xcode license. Usin the space bar will scrole >through this screen by screen. Press the "q" key to quit this and type "agree" at the next prompt that appears. You now have agreed to the license. See if you get a difference in your make output after you try this. I found this out after I was trying to get rails running here and things were not configuring as I expected. Re: Anybody know how to turn off the sound's in voice over in iOS?
I figured it out. Here is how to do it. Go into settings, choose general, accessibility, VoiceOver. Swipe down to the roter settings and double tap. There is a sounds option you can enable that will show up in the router which will allow you to turn the sounds on and off. Re: Buying a mac computer
Hi Wendy, You can get all of the details fro Apple but here are a few key differences that come to the top of my head. MacBook pro comes in three sizes, 13, 15, and 17 inch screens. Contains a built-in DVD drive, SD card reader, Can take up to 8 GB ram I believe, Nice large hard drive, USB, Firewire, and I believe the new Thunderbolt port, Nice range of processors, and I'm sure more features I can't remember. The MacBook Air comes in two sizes, 11 and 13 inch screens. Contains no DVD drive although an external drive can be purchased if one wishes. Contains two USB ports, either a 1.4 or 1.6 Intel duel core processor, Can install up to four GB ram, Comes with either a 64 or 128 GB solid state flash disk (nice and fast for bootup!) instead of a hard disk, Does not contain a Firewire port, and I'm sure more features than I can remember at the moment. The question you should ask yourself is What do you want the system to do for you? If you just want to do word processing, web browsing, reading mail, looking at pictures, and the like I personally would like to have a Macbook Air. If you want to do a lot of video and audio editing such as multi-track audio go for the MacBook Pro. I love my white MacBook that I purchased in February 2010. I'm sure I will get many years to come out of the thing. If I was buying my Mac now I would have chosen the MacBook Air because it is very lite and does not contain a hard disk and DVD drive to add to the weight. When the Mac Os10 Lion operating system is released we will have more cool VoiceOver features to play with. I for one am very much looking forward to Single Letter navigation in web pages. Good luck in purchasing your new Mac. Feel free to send more questions to the list so we can help you further with your new purchase. Re: empty app windows?
Hi Klifton, If you have an app that is non responsive you can force quit it by doing a command-option-escape. This will bring up a window with a table of running applications. Just interact with that table, highlight the non responsive app, stop interacting with the table and navigate right until you land on the force quit button. After you press this button you will get a message like the following. I'm using Mail as an example here. "Do you want to force Mail to quit?" Navigate to another force quit button and press that. Your non responsive application is now ended. Re: HELP!!! My Mac won't turn on!
Has VoiceOver gotten turned off by mistake? Try turning the Mac on, wait for a minute or 2 for the system to fully boot, then try turning VO back on with command F5. Has the system volume gotten turned down or muted somehow? Try pressing f10 or if you have the function keys set to perform software functions, press fn+f10 to see if the system is muted. Re: Dealing with the standard save dialog from applications?
Strange, I can't seem to get this to work here at all. Here is what I just did: 1. In a mail message I pressed Command+shift+s to open the save as dialog. This brought up a standard dialog. 2. Pressed shift+command+h which gave me my home directory. 3. Navigated to the file list and interacted with the list. 4. Arrowed down to the documents directory. 5. turned off quicknav and then tried pressing the right arrow key to expand the folder. Nothing happened. I pressed the enter key and the folder opened. I then navigated to the save button and pressed it. The dialog stayed on the screen. This is the strangest thing. Re: Idisk
Hi Craig, In the finder do the following: Press command-comma to open the preferences window. Navigate to the toolbar at the top of the window, interact with it , and select sidebar, and press that button. In this window you get a list of devices, shared locations, places, and searches for the past day, week, and I believe month. In the devices section you want to find the iDisk check box and uncheck it. This problem should now go away. Re: removing usb-discks when going in standby
Hi William, Can you describe the process you use to put your computer into standby? I really can't replicate this happening here and I've tried a couple of ways. The first thing I did is to put the computer to sleep by closing the screen. The computer went into it's power saving mode and when I opened the screen and pressed a key the computer came back up and the USB disk was mounted as before. The second thing I tried was putting the computer to sleep by pressing command-option-eject. The computer powered down and when I pressed a key the system comes back up as before with my USB disk mounted. The third thing I did was go into Preferences and look for any settings that may effect how the computer either goes to sleep or shuts down. The only thing I found is the energy saver tab where there are options that control when and if the computer goes to sleep. I can't find anything in the preferences that talks about going into an actual standby mode, just sleep modes. I'm truly at a loss here why this is happening to you. Describe how you put your system to sleep and maybe we can shed some light on the situation.
