Thanks Tim. As I thought I was deleting one album I unchecked keep copies in the cloud so I have lost my matched items. I will check my preferences. Kawal. Hi, I have seen no response to the message below, so I don't know how others can subscribe to this list anymore. I have a friend who's trying to do just that, and is quite frustrated with how and when he can join the list. Re: prospective subscribers not allowed to join this group?
Sorry for the delay. I was traveling this weekend and am just now catching up on email. Anyone can join the group, there is just an approval process to weed out spammers. I have not found any join requests in my inbox to approve. It's been years since I joined this list so I'm a bit fuzzy on the steps but you should just login with your google credentials (or create an account) and then when you navigate to the MacVisionaries list an "Apply to join group" button should be added to the top of the page just before the first message. I think the trick was that the join button doesn't show up unless you are already logged in. CB On 10/20/13 7:29 PM, Alex Hall wrote: Hi all, A few people on the ViPhone list want to join this list. Re: prospective subscribers not allowed to join this group?
I have been telling people to email macvisionaries+subscr...@googlegroups.com, and they all get the error message about not being able to join. People shouldn't need a Gmail account to join a list. What, then, is the correct subscription address? Joining has always been a huge problem for this list, and I always hesitate to recommend it as a resource simply because of the trouble everyone always has in signing up. I never joined this list with a Gmail account. Why not go to Google and put in the E-mail address you prefer as that is what I did and had no problem at the time. Kawal. Script, Say command
Hi all, You know how you can create a script with the say command using any or many voices? Is there a way to save that script as an audio result? I've found via Google where I can save it as an audio file for one voice, but I cannot find a solution for virtually creating a speech conversation. Any ideas? I could probably record somehow as the script is being run, but I don't think I have an app for that. Lol! I was hoping to create the script, then save the result as audio. Re: Script, Say command
Why not just speak, save, speak, save, and so on until you have all the files? If you tell hte script to, say, number them, you can then import them all into something like Audacity and align them end to end to form a conversation. That's the best I can come up with for now. Yep, we can all laugh. And, it's true. I'm watching the Apple event live right now and they made the announcement about 20 minutes ago. It's not there yet because the event is not over. Does this mean that iBooks for Mac will come with Mavericks, and that we will be able to read iBooks on our Macs today too? Or do we need to get iBooks for Mac from the app-store too? First impressions of Mavericks
Hello, I just downloaded OS X Mavericks on my 2012 Macbook Air. As far as accessibility goes, I’m going to put a damper on something right away. iBooks isn’t ready for primetime, unfortunately. It’s an extremely quirky interface, that has lots of accessibility issues that need to be fixed before it can be used as a book reader. So for now, I’d stick to iBooks on iOS, or Kindle, if you use that. Over all, though, I like the OS, and will keep writing to let people know my findings. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. The question I have is: are there help labels for each button? For me, if a button is labeled with the help tag, I can at least label it myself and then the app is usable. Re: First impressions of Mavericks
The buttons in question are not labeled nor do they have help tags, but other than the fact that it is stupid for them not to have done it, it doesn’t matter. I’m sure that they are in the menus. You have a row of radio buttons that are labeled, and the only on that will work for you is the list. The other views are not accessible. I am very dissatisfied with that, but it isn’t a show stopper. I can find a book in the iBooks store, download it, and find it in my library. Then I can read it. I don’t know about accessibility of all iBooks, but the sample chapter I got is from a very problematic pdf that I have been using. I’ve also been able to add pdfs to my library. So, while it deffinately needs to be better, it is inaccurate to say that it is unusable. On Oct 22, 2013, at 6:53 PM, Alex Hall wrote: The question I have is: are there help labels for each button? safari, virtual windows and mavericks
Hi there everyone. I’m not sure if this is a safari issue or if it’s new with mavericks, but any help would be appreciated if someone knows how to fix it. First with Safari now whenever I’m moving around a page on the web it says clickable, for example May clickable. It did not do this before and I’m wondering how do you turn this off? It’s going to drive me nuts? Second regarding virtual windows. If I’m on the mac side of things it has now greatly reduced the volume of speech on windows, but the volume is fine when I switch to the windows window. Any idea on how to fix this as well? This is another issue I did not have before upgrading to Mavericks. Re: safari, virtual windows and mavericks
Hi May. I can only answer the second question. The reason its lowering the volume is because there is a new setting in the sound category of VO utility called audio ducking. I would uncheck that box. What's the advantage to upgrading as opposed to doing a clean install, and can you upgrade straight to Mavrix from Lion, or do you have to upgrade to mountain lion first? Regarding clean installs…
Hi all, What is this about a clean install? I have a 320gb external drive doing nothing and have never used Time Machine. Should I do a backup onto that first, given that I also have Crashplan? Ho, exactly, does one do a clean install without losing all installed apps (and more importantly, non-App Store activations, app preferences, system settings, and so on)? Id did not do a clean install going from 10.7 to 10.8, so should I worry about doing so now? Any information would be great. Thank you. Hi, to get a progress update, from the Mac app store press Command 4 to go to purchases. Poor mail Experience. Any way to Tweak?
Hi everyone, so far I must say I’m disappointed with Mail in Mavericks. Mail in Mavericks has become way to chatty for my tastes and I’m hoping I’ve just missed a setting to make it stop. In Mountain Lion, I had my message list set up so all I heard was the sender, and the subject. If there was an attachment, I heard that too. Now it seems the time that the message was sent and some other stuff that just slows me down is included and I haven’t found a way to turn it off. Second, the number of messages in a conversation is now spoken at the end, after the message header details and the message preview. I’d prefer the old behaviour, where I heard how big the conversation was at the very beginning. And finally, I used to get from my message list to the email i wanted to read by pressing VO+J. The message would immediately start to read. Now it seems a first press of VO+J does nothing at all, and to do the same thing that once took 1 press of VO+J now takes three. I think this latter one is a bug. I’ve really enjoyed using Mail in Mountain Lion but if I can’t get the chatty behaviour under control, will run Outlook in a VM. Thanks for any thoughts. I am not running OS 10.9 yet, but it sounds like you have disabled Classic View. I don't use that feature, but what you describe - the ability to decide exactly what get spoken with each message - is Classic View behavior. Open Mail Preferences, and see if you can find the Classic View setting checkbox. That might work, I am not sure. Thanks very much for that Alex. I have never used Classic View before today, but you’re right, enabling it has allowed me to turn some of this stuff off. delting files in mavericks?
Hi, I upgraded to mavericks tonight, something I usually don’t do!. anyway, some of the keystrokes might’ve changed, but when I checked, sure enough, the one for deletion of a file is supposedly still command delete, but mine isn’t working, I get an annoying bonk sound. I checked in the sharing option of preferences, and also users and groups just inc axe for some reason I am not considered an admin, but I am there as one. What else can I try? I am trying to get rid of an annoying app I got but now don’t want? thanks, Cait -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Hi! OK I was wondering if anyone has the Bluetooth version of the Aftershokz headset and if so do they have the same problem as others! Like a delay that inter fears with Apps like Blind square or that they really work well with Voice over? Thanks all! Re: First impressions of Mavericks
The update is very good, except for a few things. I haven’t looked in the whole VO utility but the annoying pitch changes for data detectors in Mail and search boxes are still present with the Nuance voices. On the other hand, I’m glad that Vocalizer Expressive is on this thing now, although I found out that you had to delete the old Nuance Vocalizer voices before you could use the Expressive voices. If there is a setting to turn off those pitch changes or to disable data detectors in Mail, I’d really like to hear it. The other thing is that they have that auto ducking or whatever it’s called but that interferes with Skype when I’m in a call. I don’t want to disable it altogether since that’s pretty cool. I also have a problem with Windows using VMWare Fusion but I’ll save that for the appropriate thread. As to the auto ducking, take a look in the commands available to a commander keystroke or gesture. It might be hiding in one of those menus, so you could just toggle it with a commander. I don't know since I don't yet have the update, but that is my first reaction. On Oct 22, 2013, at 10:58 PM, BBS wrote: > The update is very good, except for a few things. Staying with Windows in VMWare Fusion, I’ve noticed that after installing Mavericks, I can’t connect to the internet. It’s saying that it’s connected, but I get a message saying that Internet Explorer can’t display the page which is google, my homepage. How do I fix this? I’m using XP with Fusion 5. I don’t want to upgrade because a friend of mine says that Fusion 6 needs more ram to run Windows properly. Accessible Bible Apps For The Macintosh That Are VoiceOver Compatible
Hello, everybody: Mike did podcasts several years ago back on BlindCoolTech (wich is now a site with loads of 404 links), so since I can longer get his podcasts on the Mac, I thought I would write out here to see if anybody could reply back to this message, and tel me something: What applications exist that are out their (paid) or fre, that allow the bible to be browsed etc with VoiceOver? If nothing exists that can be used with VoiceOver, please let me know. But if you folks know of any good Voiceover applications that would allow me to read bible verses etc, please let me know. The other question I have deals with apps that allow one to play sounds such as nature relaxing sounds and such. Any ideas on those types of things? Suppose the category might be meditation apps, perhaps, that are also accessible if any on the Mac? hey, the one thing this update has done is make VO fantastic with safari. you can now click on text elements and even better if you hit the back button it seems to remember where i was when i clicked the link. anyone who has used screenreaders on windows will fined that using safari is abit like using IE in turms of little things that i talked about above. Re: Regarding clean installs…
Hi A clean install is OSX with nothing. Only Maverick for example. All the settings have to be done again. Like VO settings. Then you probably can do a restore from backup of different apps. Not sure if it works on a clean install. Music, photos, documents should not be a problem to restore from a backup on a clean install. No, in checking around more on other sites it looks like just this one place. www.godvillegames.com and it’s like that for the whole thing. Re: Poor mail Experience. Any way to Tweak?
One thing to keep in mind is that you can press enter on a message to open it and, 99% of the time, VO will start reading it. The other advantage is that, if you get rid of the preview pane, you are not seeing messages marked as "read" just because you arrowed over them. I realize it is different and not as convenient, but I've been doing it this way for about a year and I find I much prefer it. I rely on the read status of messages to tell me what I still need to take care of in my inbox, so having previewed messages marked as read was not good at all. Again, I'm not downplaying the problem that you guys are experiencing, just offering an alternative if dealing with that gets to be too annoying. I don’t like to hear read or unread status, because it just slows things down. Similarly, opening the message with Return speaks a whole bunch of window title information that slows me down too. This is why I prefer VO+J. It’s the quickest way to get right at the text, when it works. Fair enough, everyone uses apps in different ways. I just wanted to make people aware of the alternative.
