Hi,

to get a progress update, from the Mac app store press Command 4 to go to 
purchases.  You can then press VO command H to navigate by headings until you 
get to Mavericks, and VO right arrow to the progress info.  If it’s going 
extremely slo, like saying the download will be complete in 18 hours or 
something like that, try pressing the pause button, wait a few seconds and 
press resume.
