Re: VO reads things twice

2013-02-06 Thread Nicholas Parsons
HI Gigi,

Yes, this happens to me too, a lot.

I use column browser view in Finder. One time I notice it happening a lot is
when , say, I have a folder called Downloads and inside that folder a file
called Document A. I'll interact with the file browser and VoiceOver will
announce I am on Downloads folder. I will move to the right with VO-Right Arrow
so that the focus is on Document A but VoiceOver will read Downloads folder,
Document A. I used to get confused by VoiceOver announcing Downloads folder,
thinking it hadn't moved properly and so I would VO-Right Arrow again, which
would have the unintended consequence of moving me into the information/details
column instead of the file name column.

I also notice what you describe happening to me in Mail. When I move to a new
Mail message or conversation thread VoiceOver will often announce the previous
message as well, which means I have to often double check what message I'm on
because VoiceOver has told me two seemingly different things.

I'm just not sure whether this is a bug or feature of VoiceOver.

Re: Dragon Dictate

2013-02-06 Thread Donna Goodin
Hi Brandon,

Thanks for posting this. I've wondered about Dragon for Mac. I have two
questions:

1. What do you like about using Dragon over the Mac's built-in dictation?

2. Is it possible to export a user profile in Dragon 3 so it can be used on
multiple computers?
Thanks,

Hi all,

Just wanted to let everyone know that I managed to solve my XCode problem from
yesterday. It turns out AppDelete maintains an archive of previously deleted
apps, and that was where XCode was hiding. The Mac app store detects apps on
your system, even if they're not in your Applications folder or on your

Re: o. t.: Microsoft Office for Mac! Important: read and leave comments!

2013-02-06 Thread Sean Murphy
Sara,

I would suggest you visit the Apple web accessibility pages. this is a good
starting point. There is documentation on the Mac itself for Voice-Over which
will also give you help.

Shortcut of commands to help:

command f5 activates/deactivates Voice-over. Note, if you are using the default
behaviour of the function keys. Then you will have to include the fn key
assuming you are using a laptop or the newer bluetooth keyboards.

option control is regarded as the VO command.
vo left and right arrow moves between controls.
vo shift up and down arrow interact with objects. Like Edit, tables, etc.
vo h open help menu.
vo k turns on keyboard help. Press keys with vo and you will hear their
function.
vo ? opens help
vo down/up arrow moves up and down.
vo space activates an item.

That should be enough for you to start with.

Re: o. t.: Microsoft Office for Mac! Important: read and leave comments!

2013-02-06 Thread Sean Murphy
Hi All.

Ms Office for windows is equal to the Mac version. Only reason why it is so
accessible is by third party vendors, not by Microsoft. Microsoft provided the
DOM environment to permit third parties to create scripts in any language to do
custom actions. So JFW and Window-eyes, plus other window screen reader have
taken advantage of this, resulting in a very accessible program.

So the MS Office team under Windows is not even that committed to
accessibility. Sure they have included the MSAA components for specific areas
like menus and dialogs. But the edit area within Word for example is just
equally inaccessible as the Mac. I haven't use the Windows provided screen
reader for a long time. But I believe it doesn't even access the document area.
If I am in error, then please correct in relation to this point.

So Sara, this is an opportunity for MS to fix it on both platforms. Specially
with the improvements I understand are in the new version of Windows 8.

Also everyone, you must relies that MS Windows is industry standard and there
are not many companies who don't use Office.

Just for the list, I will list some of the features that Office Word should
make exposed:

Being able to navigate the document by character, word, line, sentence,
paragraph.
Detecting different fonts, attributes of fonts, point sizes, colour of fonts,
line heights, etc.
Styles being used.
tables and navigation of them.
Column detection and navigation of them.
Page detection
Detection of graphics.
Detections of borders and their properties
Bullets, list, indents and their properties.
detection of spelling and gramma errors.

Is there anything else I have missed everyone?

Hi,

why interact and start using VO navigation commands at all? In column view, to

Hi there
If you're going to run Pages to learn VoiceOver, I think there is one more
command that you would want to know about. That is the Item Chooser which you
get to with VO i. Then you use down arrow to get to the things on the list and
VO space to make the choice.

Personally, I find that “Poof,” gives me the option to hide
unnecessary stock apps, or apps that otherwise I feel clutter my
springboard. While hiding selected apps, the functionality thereof is
not lost. For instance, if I choose to hide the “contacts” app or the
“notes” app, I can still access these apps via spotlight.

“Folder close,” is another jailbreak tweak that does exactly what the
title suggests. Upon launching an app from a folder I have created,
the folder automatically closes and is not left open, which is
opposite to what the standard practice is without jailbreaking.

Hope this has been helpful.

Jailbreaking while not a welcomed option for everyone does have benefits.

Like many users on this list have already shared, jailbreaking offers the
user customization capabilities such as installing programs that are not
available through the App Store.

Personally, I find that "Poof," gives me the option to hide unnecessary
stock apps, or apps that otherwise I feel clutter my springboard. While
hiding selected apps, the functionality thereof is not lost. For instance,
if I choose to hide the "contacts" app or the "notes" app, I can still
access these apps via spotlight.

"Folder close," is another jailbreak tweak that does exactly what the title
suggests. Upon launching an app from a folder I have created, the folder
automatically closes and is not left open, which is opposite to what the
standard practice is without jailbreaking.

Hope this has been helpful.

Re: Dragon Dictate

2013-02-06 Thread Brandon Olivares
Hi Donna,

There are a lot of things that I like about Dragon Dictate over the max
dictation capabilities. Most of all, is that the dictation on the Mac is
limited to only a minute or two, while with Dragon Dictate, you can dictate for
as long as you need to, and there is no limit. With the Mac, you are pressed to
think quickly of what you want to say, With Dragon Dictate, you can think for a
minute or two about what you want to say first. There is no rush.

You can even do editing commands. You can complete parts of what user spoke,
you can correct dictation errors, and you can even move around the document.

Also with Dragon Dictate, there are many more commands for opening applications
opening new windows

Re: Dragon Dictate

2013-02-06 Thread Brandon Olivares
Okay, my message sent before I wanted it to.

what I'm trying to say, is that there are many more commands with Dragon
Dictate to do things on your computer. There are even text macros to allow you
to insert text when you speak commands. For instance I have a command where
when I say “insert personal email address,” it will insert my email address
into the text

There is really no comparison between Dragon Dictate in dictation on the Mac.
Dragon Dictate is much better for more complex dictation and much better
control of your computer.

I'm not sure about exporting user profiles, though I think it is possible. But
I think that it is against the license agreement to use it on multiple
computers.

I hope this helps,
Brandon

I think that the version of the Mac App Store is only the express version. The
version I have is Dragon Dictate three, which on Amazon is around $140, but
full price is $199. The one of the Mac App Store is only around $45 or so.

Re: Dragon Dictate

2013-02-06 Thread Donna Goodin
Hi Brandon,

That makes a lot of sense. I have it on my PC, so know it from the Windows
side of things. But it's usually easier for me to write than to dictate, so I
only dictate short things, and for that, the dictation on the Mac has been
sufficient. But I've always liked the way you can use it to control the
computer. I tried to do that with speakable items on the Mac, but have had
mixed success. Maybe I'll check dragon out and see what I think.
Cheers,
Donna

2013-02-06 Thread Nektarios Mallas
Hello there. How is the training process? Do you have to read a specific block
of text? If yes, how did you do that?
Also, if you happen to know, is this available in other languages?
The built in dictation on the Mac is unfortunately only available in English.

Regards.
Nektarios.

Re: Dragon Dictate

2013-02-06 Thread Brandon Olivares
Hi Donna,

You should definitely check it out. I only had to say, for instance, the words
"reply to message" to reply to this message. It is so easy!

I'm also very good at typing, but I do make a lot of typos. I wanted to get
Dragon Dictate to make things easier. I believe that over time, it will get
much better at dictating what I'm saying, once it is trained enough. Already it
is getting very good!

Brandon

P.S.: This message was written with Dragon Dictate.

Good morning;
I never turn my device off, so I don't know.
Secondly, it's not an application, if you double tap the sections section in
studio, the second tab from the bottom left, then one of the options is ring
tones, you download ring tones like you do apps, but they install in the
settings.
Hope this helps

Re: what is Springboard

2013-02-06 Thread Erik Heil
Hello,
Sprinboard is simply the background daemon that is responsible for window
manageent on your IOS device. i.e. The same as metacity or Kwin on either
Gnome or KDE respectively. i.e. they are default window managers. A note
for potential jailbrakers. If and when you get complete access to the IOS
filesystem, do not delete the springboard binary, or you will literally
have a bricked device. This is because if the window manager is not
running, you will have no way to access the gui. If, on the other hand, you
have sshd running and configured, you then have another chance to make
things right. So, just a little advice to people on this list. My skype
name is eheil01 in case any of you have any questions, i"ll do whetever I
can to help anyone on this list. Everyone take care,

Question about Fusion

2013-02-06 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
So, here is my question. In Fusion, I plan to be using my vm in full screen
mode as I do have some usable vision, so I want that ability. So, how do I
switch between running apps in my vm windows environment, vs. switching
between apps along side in the mac? If I do command+tab, won't Windows see
that as me hitting Windows+tab? I say windows+tab as the alt and windows
are reversed. I know that can be remapped, but I'd personally rather not.
I kind of like the reversed mapping, honestly. Bottom line is, how do I
specify that I want to switch between Fusion, vs. say, YoruFukurou, or if I
want to switch say between, Outlook Distress vs. Internet Exploder. Sorry,
couldn't resist the play on words.

Re: Dragon Dictate

2013-02-06 Thread Brandon Olivares
Hi Donna,

They haven't on Amazon, but you must purchase the actual CD. You cannot
download it. Unfortunately, the digital download goes for the full price of
$199. I got around it by finding coupon for the UK version of their website for
30% off, which puts it around $145. The coupon is DICTATE30%. to get to their
UK site, you have to go to http://shop.nuance.co.uk. The coupon does not seem
to work on the US site, so this is why I had to go this way. If you use PayPal
to pay, it should support the foreign currency.

The coupon seems to go until March 30.

I hope this helps,
Brandon

There are a lot of things that I like about Dragon Dictate over the max

limited to only a minute or two, while with Dragon Dictate, you can
dictate for as long as you need to, and there is no limit. With the Mac,
you are pressed to think quickly of what you want to say, With Dragon
Dictate, you can think for a minute or two about what you want to say
 first. There is no rush.

You can even do editing commands. You can complete parts of what user
spoke, you can correct dictation errors, and you can even move around the
 document.

Also with Dragon Dictate, there are many more commands for opening
 applications opening new windows

Warning about I O S Jailbreak

2013-02-06 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
I don't know if something on my end just went screw, but I tried installing
some of the Siri addons which you can find in Cidia under the sections tab.
Man, my phone was working fine until I installed some of them. After I did,
my phone, even when not using Siri froze almost every 5 minutes literally
speaking, I kid you not! I finally had to restore the thing and unjailbreak
it. I still want to jailbreak, but I can't be with a phone that freezes
every few seconds as I do use my device for more than just apps. After all,
it is a... gasp... phone... LOL!

Re: placing things on the doc

2013-02-06 Thread Esther
Hi Jed,

I navigate through the various sections of the dock, after navigating
there with Control-F3 or VO-D, with Fn+Down arrow, which cycles me
through the apps, files and folders, and trash. Fn+Up arrow cycles in
the opposite direction. Fn+Right arrow takes me directly to the
trash, and Fn+left arrow takes me to Finder.

In order to be viewable by VoiceOver, folders in your dock have to be
set to view content as "List" and display as "Folder". The default is
to display as "Stack" and view as either "Fan" or "Automatic". In
this mode, VoiceOver doesn't display the contents in a format you can
browse when you try to view them. Use your contextual menu (VO-Shift-
M) to set up these options one at a time.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther,

Re: Warning about I O S Jailbreak

2013-02-06 Thread Michael Babcock
Chris;
In my opinion this is what makes jailbreaking so fun, you can break something
just by installing an application, that you didn't expect to break anything.
For example, when you are working with android, you can install an application
that may cause your device to be useless. Therefore, in my opinion it's a lot
nicer to be able to take a risk, then to be locked down by Apple's requirements
in there App Store.
Michael PS, great job being able to fix it, that's why we always suggest making
backups before you perform the jailbreak. That way, you can restore to your
last known good configuration, just something to keep in the back of your mind.

Re: How do I reliably right-click links in Safari using VoiceOver?

2013-02-06 Thread Esther
Hello Jürgen, Darrell, and Others,

I'll just add the comment that if you ever have started playing an mp3
file in your browser, you can press command-L to highlight the
location in the browser followed by Option-enter to force this to
download to your default downloads location instead of continuing to
play..

This is the regular Mac shortcut known as Option-Click to force
downloads of highlighted items. VoiceOver automatically highlights
the link when you navigate there, so holding down the Option key and
then pressing return (or "enter" as many like to say) automatically
forces the download.

When you navigate to the address bar with Command-L, the link address
is automatically highlighted. So this is what Mike's sequence of
commands is doing: it's placing the highlighted link address in the
address bar so he can press Option-Enter to force the download.

I usually move items from my downloads folder. If I want to download
a number of items to another folder, I may bring up the Safari
preferences menu with Command-comma, and temporarily change the
default download location.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Re: Jailbreaking?

2013-02-06 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi, The app Springtomize is very good. It allowed me to get rid of about
15 separate jailbreak apps and tweaks because of how much it does. The
app is $3.00, but is well worth it. It allows me to customize how many
rows of icons and how many icons per row to have on the home screen. It
allows me to customize how many icons on the dock and the app switcher.
It allows me to have more than 12 or 16 apps in folders. It allows me to
customize the slide to unlock text on the lock screen. I have it saying,
Hello Raul. It allows me to show seconds on the clock if I want. That's
just a few of the things it does. That tweak, along with several others
from the following web site are highly recommended.

Hello Rich and others,

Jailbreaking while not a welcomed option for everyone does have benefits.

Like many users on this list have already shared, jailbreaking offers
the user customization capabilities such as installing programs that are
not available through the App Store.

Personally, I find that “Poof,” gives me the option to hide unnecessary
stock apps, or apps that otherwise I feel clutter my springboard. While
hiding selected apps, the functionality thereof is not lost. For
instance, if I choose to hide the “contacts” app or the “notes” app, I
can still access these apps via spotlight.

“Folder close,” is another jailbreak tweak that does exactly what the
title suggests. Upon launching an app from a folder I have created, the
folder automatically closes and is not left open, which is opposite to
what the standard practice is without jailbreaking.

Hope this has been helpful.

Re: Warning about I O S Jailbreak

2013-02-06 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi, that happened to one of the 3 iPhones I jailbroke. The reason is
because not all Cydia apps and tweaks are iOS 6 compatible yet. You have
to be very careful in reading the app description to see which ones.
Once I found that all I had to do was RTFM a little, things went fine.
So, you can jailbreak, just don't go adding everything under the sun
just because you can. I think that SMS GV Extension is one such app
which is not yet iOS 6 ready and can cause issues.

Jailbreaking while not a welcomed option for everyone does have
benefits.

User account settings & security

2013-02-06 Thread Traci
Morning all,

I have some questions about the above subject.

Is there a way for 2 users to share some settings? For example, I'd like my
voiceover settings to be the same for 2 different users, or my key remap
settings to be the same.

Also, what are your thoughts & recommendations on using a second account for
traveling? For extra security? Has anyone created another account for when
they are on the road or in hotels? I'm just curious.

I've been playing around more with accounts, keychains, and the like.

Any input is appreciated.

Re: User account settings & security

2013-02-06 Thread Chris Blouch
Security is a spectrum. What kinds of bad things are you trying to
avoid? For example, any Mac can easily be broken into by booting off an
OSX CD and resetting the root password. Not so easy if you do the drive
encryption. How would multiple accounts help? I'd just set it up so you
have to put in a password when the machine wakes up and after a certain
amount of idle time if you don't want others to get in when you leave
your laptop unattended, not that you should really do that either.

2013-02-06 Thread Buddy Brannan
Yeah, Ventrilo on the Mac works really well. The only possible gotcha would be
setting your push to talk (or release to listen, in some cases, I guess) hot
key. For this you need a physical mouse, you have to route your mouse cursor to
the OK button, turn off tracking, move back to the field for the PTT hot key,
press something, then click the mouse. FN works pretty well for a PTT key, IMO.

Re: switching voice on voiceover

2013-02-06 Thread Alex Hall
Go to the vo utility and select speech from the table, then the voices tab.
Move to the default voice popup button and hit space on it to open up the mnu
of options. To get more voices, press space on the last item, "customize", then
use the checkboxes in the table that appears to select the voices you want to
download. Once they are installed, which may take a while depending on how many
you wanted, go back to the vo utility and choose the voice you want. You can
also quickly move through the available voices anywhere in OS10 by holding down
the vo and command keys, then hitting left/right arrows to get to "voice", then
up/down to choose one. There are other speech attributes in there that you can
quickly change. Simply release the modifier keys when you are done, no need to
press enter or anything since no dialog ever came up.

iTunes issue.

2013-02-06 Thread Jessica Moss
I've been having this weird issue that started I'm not sure when, with Itunes
stripping my files out of their original folders on my harddrive when I load
them, then either putting them into a separate folder of their own somewhere
else on the drive, or, if the album is by various artists, it breaks it all up
according to artist name, and puts them all in a ton of folders all over my
drive, so that I have a ton of folders with only 1 or 2 songs in it that I have
to attempt to put back in order, if I even have the energy to do that anymore
depending on how big the complation is.
Does anyone know how to fix all this, or if it's even fixable? I have no
idea how this happened, and it's driving me nuts, especially considering the
fact that at times I've had to rerip several albums for Hannah to listen to,
sense they don't ever stay where I put them, and I eventually delete them out
of my library, sense I don't want to listen to Sesame STreet on a daily basis,
and don't want to constantly leave it in my library and clutter it up. So at
this point, any help someone could give me would really be appreciated.

Re: Question about Fusion

2013-02-06 Thread Chris Bruinenberg
Hi Chris
To interact with the vm you press control+command f.
This is a command built in to vmware fusion.
THen when you press option tab, it will be the equivalent of alt tab.
You can change this but by default, the option key is your alt key, the command
key is your windows key.
If you want to interact with the mac, press control+command, then give it a few
seconds and you can turn voiceover back on.
I personally think you have a better experience with vmware and windows if you
turn vo off.
GOod luck and feel free to add me on Skype if you need assistance.

That makes a lot of sense. I have it on my PC, so know it from the
Windows side of things. But it's usually easier for me to write than to

the Mac has been sufficient. But I've always liked the way you can use it

Mac, but have had mixed success. Maybe I'll check dragon out and see what
 I think.

Re: How do I reliably right-click links in Safari using VoiceOver?

2013-02-06 Thread Jessica Moss
Cool, thanx for that bit of info. I was actually wondering how to do that
myself, considering the fact that I listen to podcasts myself from time to time
but unfortunately don't have time to sit for long periods of time to listen to
them and it would be nice to be able to save them to my phone/computer to
listen to whenever.
I managed to do that one time with a couple of the cooking in the dark shows,
but couldn't remember how I used to do it, then after that couldn't get the
files themselves to save without wanting to save the whole webpage, so
appreciate this.

Re: User account settings & security

2013-02-06 Thread Traci
Yeah, not so much worried, more curious about the options.

I had read about creating a separate account for only checking emails and
surfing, so if someone got the laptop, they'd be less likely to get sensitive
data.

A more complicated idea was creating separate keychains. One for everyday
tasks, and one for financial passwords and such.

I've created an admin password now, and require it when the mac turns on &
wakes up.

Re: iTunes issue.

2013-02-06 Thread Ray Foret Jr
That is what I fricken hate about ITunes. Its library thinks it knows better
than you where to put thinkgs and it puts them where it feels like it and you
cannot control it. I love the .m4a format for files, and, as a player, ITunes
is actually easy: but, the library sucks. ITunes is very library dependent.
When you synch your Iphone using it, you cannot manually select what songs go
on yoru phone and which don't. Until Apple makes ITunes a library independent
player, I will never use it. Sure, you can check and uncheck individual songs:
But, that doesn't always stick and I hate that ITunes seems to rely on a
library which puts stuff where you cannot find it and thinks it knows better
than you where stuff should go.

Second of all, with my medical condition which we won't under any conditions

Chris;
In my opinion this is what makes jailbreaking so fun, you can break
something just by installing an application, that you didn't expect to break
anything. For example, when you are working with android, you can install an
application that may cause your device to be useless. Therefore, in my
opinion it's a lot nicer to be able to take a risk, then to be locked down
by Apple's requirements in there App Store.
Michael PS, great job being able to fix it, that's why we always suggest
making backups before you perform the jailbreak. That way, you can restore
to your last known good configuration, just something to keep in the back of
your mind.

Hello Rich and others,

Jailbreaking while not a welcomed option for everyone does have
benefits.

Like many users on this list have already shared, jailbreaking
offers the user customization capabilities such as installing
programs that are not available through the App Store.

Personally, I find that “Poof,” gives me the option to hide
unnecessary stock apps, or apps that otherwise I feel clutter my
springboard. While hiding selected apps, the functionality thereof
is not lost. For instance, if I choose to hide the “contacts” app or
the “notes” app, I can still access these apps via spotlight.

“Folder close,” is another jailbreak tweak that does exactly what
the title suggests. Upon launching an app from a folder I have
created, the folder automatically closes and is not left open, which
is opposite to what the standard practice is without jailbreaking.

Hope this has been helpful.

Yeah, Ventrilo on the Mac works really well. The only possible gotcha would
be setting your push to talk (or release to listen, in some cases, I guess)
hot key. For this you need a physical mouse, you have to route your mouse
cursor to the OK button, turn off tracking, move back to the field for the
PTT hot key, press something, then click the mouse. FN works pretty well for
a PTT key, IMO.

Hi Chris
To interact with the vm you press control+command f.
This is a command built in to vmware fusion.
THen when you press option tab, it will be the equivalent of alt tab.
You can change this but by default, the option key is your alt key, the
command key is your windows key.
If you want to interact with the mac, press control+command, then give it a
few seconds and you can turn voiceover back on.
I personally think you have a better experience with vmware and windows if
you turn vo off.

GOod luck and feel free to add me on Skype if you need assistance.

"More Info," Item Option

2013-02-06 Thread Emilio Hernandez
Hello everyone,

When pressing CMD-I to activate the "more info," feature I run into an odd
issue.
When navigating to the "more info" disclosure option, I expand this element
because I want to get more information about the item.
Sometimes the elements are read with voiceover, but in most cases the relevant
elements are skipped-over and voiceover moves to the next item, which is the
"name and extension" component of a particular file.
Has anyone encountered this problem? If so, what are some alternative solutions
others have used to access the "more info" component of a file?
I am wanting this information because I want the source information about the
file, so I can create a Hazel rule.

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Re: iTunes issue.

2013-02-06 Thread Esther
Hi Ray,

Unchecking the boxes for "Keep iTunes Media Folder Organized" and
"Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" in the
advanced pane of your iTunes preferences doesn't work after the fact
once you've added the folders to your iTunes library with these
unchecked, but it should work if you have these set before you add to
library, as Chris stated. Files and folders are never renamed if they
reside outside the current iTunes Media folder location when they are
added. Only copies that placed in your iTunes Media folder location
are renamed to match the label tags. You can always find the other
versions out side of your iTunes library location if that's where they
were located originally, change your preference settings, delete the
versions copied to iTunes, and add these again.

And I though you could manually manage your music if you sync your
iPhone to your computer. Probably the easiest way to control this,
though, is to create a playlist that contains music you want on your
device, and check that you only want checked library tracks and
playlists to sync.

Cheers,

Esther

Re: User account settings & security

2013-02-06 Thread Kayaker
Hi,

Here are some general notes on security:
1. Physical security trumps any electronic security. Bottom line, if someone
has access to your computer, your data can be compromised. It makes no
difference if your in a home or hotel, if someone has your computer in hand,
you are in trouble.

As far as electronic security, I suggest the following simple suggestions.
First, when you first set up your computer, and it asks you for your initial
account, create an account for administrator access only. For example, it
might be called admin. Give this account admin rights to your computer. Then,
in accounts or users and groups system preferences, create your every day
working account and do not allow this account to have administrator access to
this computer. Set it up as a standard user. Then, if you ever need to
install an update or application, use the admin accounts credentials. I
suggest this simple step to prevent any unknown web exploits as demonstrated by
the recent java security hole in java 7 so urgently patched by oracle.

My final suggestion is to disable auto launching of trusted files from safari.
There simply is no such thing as a trusted file type.

These three things will make your Mac extremely secure, more so than using the
walled garden of Mountain Lion's gatekeeper, imho.

As for sharing voiceover settings, I'd suggest exporting the settings from one
account and importing it into the other. Alternatively, consider using a small
flash drive with mobile settings, then you can use this on any Mac, not just
your own, and get your perfect set of VO settings no matter what Mac you are on.

Cheers.

Re: Dragon Dictate

2013-02-06 Thread Maurice Mines
See you when you go to the training process, you have to read a story. And if
you only use voiceover, it will go fairly slowly. Because you have to read the
text a.k.a. listen to it. And then try to remember it, long enough to dictate
it back into Dragon. And so this does lengthen the amount of time it takes to
produce the text in the training story. I hope this helps people out where on
the list? For some reason my voice doesn't exactly work well with Siri on my
iPhone. So if you were not able to understand this feel free to write me a
message.

It's definitely a lot easier to do if you either have a braille display, or can
emboss a braille copy to read the text from.

Can SuperDuper be used to backup bootcamp partition

2013-02-06 Thread Phil Halton
It seems like SuperDuper should be able to backup a bootcamp partition, but I
have a feeling it isn't that simple. anybody know if this can be done? Would it
run into trouble making the backup a bootable image - just guessing?

Hi,
SuperDuper!, is designed from what I see, at least, to backup 1 partition at a

When I had multi partitions, SuperDuper asked me what partition to backup, out
of the 2 it saw.

A request to contact apple about pages.

2013-02-06 Thread Chris Bruinenberg
Hi all.
To some this isn't important to you at all but please I'm asking for your
assistance to contact apple about pages and the following issue.
I have already contacted them about the issue and i hope somebody on this list
will as well.
The issue i have currently with pages is voiceover doesn't announce the text
alignment.
It however will announce this within text edit and nidus writer express.
Would anybody be so kind to help me and also contact apple's support team?
I have sent an email to apples pages team as well as apple accessibility.
This is an issue for me currently that is a very annoyance because papers at my
university have to be aligned in many ways.
If anybody has any suggestions for me, please let me know.
Thank you for your time.

Re: Dragon Dictate

2013-02-06 Thread Brandon Olivares
Yes, the training was difficult. But I was able to get through it pretty
easily. The first couple of pages is the most difficult, but after that it's a
lot easier.

I only wish that they were more navigation commands. Apparently, with Dragon
NaturallySpeaking, there are many more navigation commands, so that you can
always use your voice to navigate even the web. However, Dragon Dictate is
still catching up in this regard.

However, I am still loving it! It's been a lot of fun to dictate all of my
messages!

frankly, Apple has been saying they'd fix, but haven't. I wrote them, so
we'll hope for the best, but I'm going to be very very frank with you. I'm
not very optimistic, admittedly.

Subject: A request to contact apple about pages.

Hi all.
To some this isn't important to you at all but please I'm asking for your
assistance to contact apple about pages and the following issue.
I have already contacted them about the issue and i hope somebody on this
list will as well.
The issue i have currently with pages is voiceover doesn't announce the
text alignment.

It however will announce this within text edit and nidus writer express.
Would anybody be so kind to help me and also contact apple's support
team?

I have sent an email to apples pages team as well as apple accessibility.
This is an issue for me currently that is a very annoyance because papers
at my university have to be aligned in many ways.

If anybody has any suggestions for me, please let me know.
Thank you for your time.

Re: copying entire albums or movies

2013-02-06 Thread Esther
Hello Kerri,

I'm not sure what you want to do here, but if you want to make copies
of all your imported CD tracks from iTunes, select one of the tracks,
then press Command-Shift-R, which should show the location of that
track in a Finder window under the folder for its album. Press Command-
A to select all, the Command-C to copy. Then navigate to the folder
you want to put your tracks into and paste with Command-V. For
example, if I want to put these into a folder on my Desktop named "My
Great Music", I could move to the Desktop with Command-Shift-D. Create
a new folder there with Command-Shift-N and type in the name "My Great
Music". Then I could move into the folder with Command-Down arrow and
paste in the tracks I had copied with Command-V.

You would still need to move aback into iTunes with Command-Tab and
delete the tracks there, because iTunes keeps its own database, and
simply deleting the tracks using Finder only leaves behind broken
links.

Ray is correct that if you don't want to organize your music in
iTunes, and don't care about being able to sync it to an iPhone or
other Apple device, you should probably use third party software like
Mac by sbooth to rip your CDs.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Hi Chris,

You asked on this list and not the Mac-Access list, but I'll point you to an
old Mail Archive posting of mine from the Mac-Access list that gives the
summary of the dates, titles, description, and sizes of all 14 of Mike's Mac
podcasts at BCT. With the exact date information you should just be able to
find them from the Blind Cool Tech web site:

Hi, Esther:

I want to copy the entire cd, not have individual tracks. When I pasted the cd
into drop box, I saw individual tracks, not an album.

Okay. Sure thing, Gigi. I'll do that. Has it got anything to do with verbosity

Ester,

The problem is that BCT is missing some of the files. This is why I asked.

HI Ricardo,

Thanks for that. I thought without interacting you could only go up and down,
but couldn't open new folders. I'm sure I tried it before without success. NOt
sure what I did wrong.

Anyway, that's a great tip and will save me some time. Thank you!
