Hi

2012-02-05 Thread chris hallsworth

Hello all.
I have just joined this list. Thanks to the owners for approving my
membership. Much appreciated.
I am here because I am thinking of getting a mac, purely for a change,
as my next computer. I have been using Windows since 1997, and I am
willing to take the challenge. If I can operate an iPod Touch or an
iPhone, surely I can operate a mac. That's my philosophy anyway.

So thought I would come here.

Re: Hi

2012-02-05 Thread Mr. L. Alexander
Hi chris, welcome aboard.

you'll find the mac an easy OS to handle, voiceover as intuitive as windows and
stable. If you need any help, feel free to ask whatever questions re the mac,
voiceover, etc and we're all here to help.

I'm a mac systems engineer and founder of a charity here in the UK called Free
Macs For The Blind which caters for supply of working older macs for blind
users who can't afford new technology. so have a background in system repairs
and advanced maintenance / instalations.

I use a macbook pro 2010 edition for all my contract needs from diagnostics to
recovery work and love voiceover to bits. couldn't be without it.

I'm using windows though on a separate system to run some tools of the trade
but hey, computers are computers.

Thanks, it's great to be here as well. I have an idea or two on what I
am looking into. Either a Mac Mini or Macbook Pro if I want a DVD drive,
or the Macbook Air if I plan to get the DVD drive separately. Oh yes, I
would have to do this for the Mac Mini as well, but it's the cheapest
mac, hence me including this in the research.

Thanks Lu, that sounds interesting your job. Well done on that. Keep it
up. While the mac technology is so expensive, you can see just why.
Apple both designs and makes the equipment, instead of hiring out
contractors to do the work themselves. Also, unlike the PC, you don't
get any crapware, excuse the explicits, on a mac. So again, you can see
just why they are so expensive.

Re: Hi

2012-02-05 Thread Mr. L. Alexander
hey and good to hear from you.

depending on whether you need a machine that's going to travel with you or a
desktop solution, for me, I'd always recommend a macbook pro. I have the 15"
model which is about to take a serious upgrade shortly. about to install 8gb
ram and a 1tb drive for data storage, etc. so the macbook pro in my opinion is
a solid choice. it's built like a tank, very comfortable and the keyboard feels
like a dream unlike windows based systems. mind you I've grown up with laptops
mainly as well as working with desktops both windows and mac.

the mac mini is a really nice system to go for but there are a few slight
disadvantages here as a few users have noticed. one issue is that the mac mini
when using voiceover needs access to a monitor. this is a hardware and software
issue but the cheat from what I notice is getting the apple DVI or VGA adaptor
and connecting it, that way it finds a monitor port as a reference.

if you want a machine that has a really warm sound to the speakers, I would
also recommend the iMac. the speakers really do offer a nice balanced and warm
tone.

best thing to do is go into your nearest apple store and get a feel for each
machine. be aware that apple store staff are not trained in voiceover and
accessibility requirements other than basics.

are you in the UK?

if so, drop me a line off list at freemacsforthebl...@mac-access.net and I'd be
happy to help where possible.

Re: Hi

2012-02-05 Thread Mr. L. Alexander
the macbook air is designed to be a netbook computer in a sense. due to it's
size, weight and lack of an optical drive, it's designed to go into a woman's
handbag or briefcase, etc. in terms of speed it's got plenty of power to handle
most general needs. If you think of the macbook air as a pocket computer but
just a little bigger (like the days of the HP iPaq and others like it) then
you're pretty much there.

the macbook pro as it's name states is a pro laptop where all the hardware you
need is available. the DVD+/-RW drive, USB's Ethernet and more are stocked in
and can be as powerful as you like with larger screens from 13" to 17", with
the option of antiglare displays, etc. the other beauty behind the macbook pro
is user upgrades. the HDD drive installed on a macbook pro is a standard SATA
hard drive and can be replaced, as well as RAM. the macbook air is reliant on
solid state technology for a drive, thus no hard drive wining away or clicking,
hence it's speed in terms of data throughput.

depending on what you want to achieve with your notebook, the two main options
are the macbook pro and macbook air.

it's worth noting that the macbook pro can be tailor made to use SSD drives at
expense to the user. as SSD is still a new technology, it's still rather
expensive.

either way, you're getting a mac that delivers results you can rely on.

the macbook air is an instant on system because of SSD storage, so between
powering on and desktop, that's a few seconds. then quick access to
applications. however the CPU isn't as fast as say the new quad core macbook
pro's or my dual core i7 system but it's horses for courses.

help! Lost my ability to see my Iphone in Itunes!

2012-02-05 Thread Ray Foret Jr
Subject line says it just about all. did a wireless synch and think I changed
a ssetting or two using ITunes but cannot remember what I did. I now find
that, no matter whether I plug my Iphone in to my Mac via the USB cable or not,
even if I restart ITunes or my Iphone, I cannot see my Iphone at all. It just
won't show up in the play lists table area. What ever to do?

Re: help! Lost my ability to see my Iphone in Itunes!

2012-02-05 Thread Mr. L. Alexander
try the following plan of attack.

first... quit iTunes.

go to the following location:
/users/"USER"/library/preferences.

now select com.apple.itunes.plist and com.apple.itunesHelper.plist

delete these two files. close the window. launch itunes and this should resolve
the error. if not, please let us know so it can be further investigated.

next... restart iTunes. this will rebuild itunes.

Re: help! Lost my ability to see my Iphone in Itunes!

2012-02-05 Thread Mike Huckabay
HI there I have a cupple thing's you could try. My iPhone some times will do
this also. Cloze iTunes unplug your mac from the network plug your mac back
into the network and then once you have a internet connection open iTunes and
your iPhone should be back for wireless sinking.
I hope this helps.

Itunes busy since update?

2012-02-05 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
Hi.

Those of you have updated to the latest version of Lion, please can you tell me
when you open Itunes, does it say 'busy' all the time? Mine does although it
didn't do it yesterday. The only thing I did since yesterday was to spend on
the Itunes store for music. As I said my I phone 4S can't be seen wirelessly
although it's connected to the wireless network. Also, my I phone is being
backed up to I cloud rather than my computer. Does that make a difference?

Kawal.

Re: help! Lost my ability to see my Iphone in Itunes!

2012-02-05 Thread Mr. L. Alexander
You're very welcome.

this advice also applies to other applications which can either crash due to a
settings change or behave erratically. just ensure you know your application
and the prefs file associated with it. you can delete the file and the app on
restart will build a new one ready for you to make the recommended or desired
settings for your needs.

you've just given me an amazing idea and I'm glad this came up.

wait and see. check my new website in the near future. it's

Re: I phone not Syncing wirelessly.

2012-02-05 Thread Mr. L. Alexander
the fix in your case is the following.

perform the steps highlighted below to rebuild itunes...

>> try the following plan of attack.
>>
>> first... quit iTunes.
>>
>> go to the following location:
>> /users/"USER"/library/preferences.
>>
>> now select com.apple.itunes.plist and com.apple.itunesHelper.plist
>>
>> delete these two files. close the window. launch itunes and this should
>> resolve the error.

after this, make a backup of your iphone. now when itunes has rebuilt itself do
the following:
perform a reset. in this instance allow it to back up all data. when the reset
has booted your iphone, set up as a new phone and not a backup. there is a
clear reason for this. the backup feature also contains all data to the phone
including your previous settings and where sometimes known, certain bugs.

when your iphone has finished restoring and you set up your phone, do your
usual settings, then merge your address book contacts and other data, etc. if
you have apps associated, send them from itunes as a new instance.

when setting up wireless sync, etc you should then be pretty much OK as long as
you set up the phone to your router / base station, etc with the usual settings.

this should solve the issue. if not, let me know.

RE: Airport problem solved, but two more questions

2012-02-05 Thread Bill Holton
On the disk tab there was a partition table. I had to go into that table
and highlight a drive, then stop interacting and move down where it then
asked if I wanted to give permission and if I wanted to require a password.
After that I did an update. The reason my second drive wasn't showing up
was apparently I had not gone through those steps with the second partition
in the drive partition table. Hope this helps.

Subject: Re: Airport problem solved, but two more questions

Hi. I have a 3TB seegate goflex connected to my airport extreme. When I go
into the disk tab of the utility, I don't see any partitions in the table.

I don't see any sidebar as noted in the below message.

I have share over WAN checked and have set up this using two accounts (Mine
and my wife's) for the present.

However, I can't figure out how to get the disk tab dialog to see even one
partition. I'm not going to partition the drive; just use the whole 3TB to
store files.

I use carbon copy backup on a firewire drive; so am not going to use time
machine.

I was sent two articles by apple concerning setting up the back to my mac
feature which I have set up, but both articles won't open when I open the
links. I am told there are too many redirects.

How do I get my airport extreme to see my 3TB drive?

Thanks.

Hi.

This worked great. But now I have two further questions.

1: Is there any way to rename a drive once it's discovered from the
Airport. Just pressing Enter doesn't work like it does with drives directly
connected.

2: I have also attached me HP printer to the Airport Extreme. My mini can
find it easily, but the Windows 7 and Win XP boxes don't seem to be able to
find it. Am I doing something wrong or does Router printing sharing only
work with Macs?

Thanks.

Hi Bill,

When in Airport Utility, Interact with the Network Group. VO-space on the
Airport Extreme you wish to work with. Press the Edit button to get at the
configuration options. Select the Disk tab to see the options available in
that pane. They are similar to those in the previous AU. Make sure that
both your partitions are shared in the format you prefer. Update if
necessary.

The MacOS will mount whichever share you have setup for your Time Machine
backups as "Time Machine Backups" on your machine as the Time Machine is
doing it's job. If you have shared the partitions through AU, you can
access the partitions individually via the Sidebar by first choosing your
Airport Extreme from the Shared section of the Sidebar. Your partitions
will then appear in the window where you can mount one or both as you
please. They will not appear automatically or upon startup unless you set
this up in the Users & Groups pane of your system Preferences. This is
usually done by first mounting the drive you wish auto-mounted, going to the
Login Items of Users & Groups system Pref, then adding the volume you wish
to auto-mount.

Hope this clears some things up for you. If you're still confused, let me
know.

Later...

Hi.

Has anyone tried the updated Airport Utility. It seems rather inaccessible

Before, I had a 2 tarabyte drive partitioned into two 1t drives connected to
my airport extreme and I could se them both on my desktop. I had all the
ports on the extreme filled and had to use the Mini wirelessly, so I moved
the drive to directly connected to mmy mini where they also worked fine.
Now I have my mini connected with a wired connection, want to move them
back. I can find the drive I use for my time machine backups, but the other
drive simply will not show up. I reformatted it with Mac Journaling, and I
have looked everywhere. I use the Finer to go to my computer, to network,
to my airport, it's just not there. I did get into the airport software
yesterday and make sure the box is checked to connect external drives. For
now the drives are labeled test and TM for time machine. On my desktop the
TM drives shows up, but it's called Time Machine backups. The Test drive
will not show up. Any thoughts or suggestions appreciated.

I have to tell you guys this funny Siri story. After Siri misunderstood me two

Re: help! Lost my ability to see my Iphone in Itunes!

2012-02-05 Thread Mr. L. Alexander
Hi guys.

this has just come to light that the following fix only works with OS 10.4
through 10.6. As OS X 10.7 has a flaw where the prefs files for itunes are no
longer visible to the OS, this particular file set cannot be wiped or changed.
I am investigating this issue through our iMac 2011 build to test for a
resolution.

about to install 8gb ram and a 1tb drive for data storage, etc. so the
macbook pro in my opinion is a solid choice. it's built like a tank,
very comfortable and the keyboard feels like a dream unlike windows
based systems. mind you I've grown up with laptops mainly as well as
working with desktops both windows and mac.

the mac mini is a really nice system to go for but there are a few
slight disadvantages here as a few users have noticed. one issue is that
the mac mini when using voiceover needs access to a monitor. this is a
hardware and software issue but the cheat from what I notice is getting
the apple DVI or VGA adaptor and connecting it, that way it finds a
monitor port as a reference.

if you want a machine that has a really warm sound to the speakers, I
would also recommend the iMac. the speakers really do offer a nice
balanced and warm tone.

best thing to do is go into your nearest apple store and get a feel for
each machine. be aware that apple store staff are not trained in
voiceover and accessibility requirements other than basics.

Thank you so much for the laugh.

I also have a funny story as I asked Siri what the time was in another part of

Any tips on how I could do both these things?

Superduper issues and questions

2012-02-05 Thread Bill Holton
Hi.

It's been awhile since I've used superduper. First, I can no longer find
the clone drive option that would turn a drive into a bootable drive.

Second, I can't find my HD that's attached onto my Airport extreme in the
list of drives to back up to. Strangely, if I pick create a sparse disk I
can find the drive in that list of drives, but not in the initial drive list
to backup to. The drive is mounted and shows up fine on the desktop.

Would like to clone my OS drive to one of the partitions on the Airport
Extreme connected drive. Suggestions appreciated.

Bill

Re: help! Lost my ability to see my Iphone in Itunes!

2012-02-05 Thread Ray Foret Jr
Actually, I would like to state that I'm using 10.7.3 and yet, I was able to
delete the files you specified. How, easy. I used Tinker Tool to expose the
~/Library/preferences folder and once there, I deleted the files you indicated.
Yes, it's true that in 10.7, the ~/Library/Prefs folder is hidden; however,
there are ways in which it can be exposed and manupulated.

HTH.

Re: help! Lost my ability to see my Iphone in Itunes!

2012-02-05 Thread Mr. L. Alexander
thank you for that. that's brilliant.

As I'm running snow leopard. I'm not interested in moving to lion until they
iron out the speech synth issues and certain other bugs I've no time or
patience for. in my work I don't have time to faff around. time's money lol.

I'll get hold of tinkertool and put that on my toolbox. I have similar apps
like onyx, deeper and cocktail for OS X 10.7 and earlier but if tinkertool can
offer better support then I'll investigate that now.

Re: Abby Fine Reader Express

2012-02-05 Thread Jonathan C. Cohn
I have heard that the Fujitsu 1100 portable scanner comes with ABBY and I know
that a scanner I bought several ears ago came with a copy of ABBY that was not
as fuctional as the current one is. So you might want to look at if it comes
bundled with the scanner you are thinking of purchasing, perhaps you can save
the software purchase.

Best wishes,

Re: time machine?

2012-02-05 Thread Jonathan C. Cohn
A few points.

1. There are a couple of full disk backup utilities (Carbon Copy Cloner and
SuperDuper ) come to mind immediately.
2. I believe at least one VM version out there creates its disk images in a
bundle that would allow TimeMachine to not need to copy everything for one
small change.
3. THere is at least one off-site storage solution that allows one to use a
friends machine for the backups.

I am happy to report that after complaining/reporting to Apple tech
support this issue, their engineers confirmed this observation and
indicated to the rep that they would try to fix this issue with a
subsequent update to Lion. I learned this on the same day that 10.7.3
came out so I suspect it might be some time before we see the actual
fix. I hope they deem it important enough to take seriously and
actually put in place.

Well, the only issue I see without a monitor connected to the Mini is
you have to force VO back on with the Commend+F5 key after logging in;
minur nusince but I can live with it. For me, it was the money. I
bought the Mini for $695 or so where the macbooks are well over $1,000
so I went the cheapest route possible for now. I just got into the
Mac world about 3 weeks ago so maybe in the future with more money, I
would expand the mac collection to include a powerful macbook pro or
something.

Just to note though, the lack of a monitor with a mac mini brings up
only minor inconveniences in case you're trying to save some money.

Re: Funny Siri story

2012-02-05 Thread Courtney Curran
Hi,
I have a funny siri story too, I asked siri what date President's Day was this
year, and she said the date, then proceeded to say "I hope I get off that day".
For those of you who aren't in the U.S., people usually get off of work and
school on President's Day. I just thought that was funny what siri said.

Re: Funny Siri story

2012-02-05 Thread Gigi
Hi again guys
Yes, I asked Siri also about Presidents' Day. When she came back and said that
she hoped I would get the day off, I took it a step further. I told her I
wasn't going to get it off. I was hoping she would commiserate with me, but she
told me she didn't understand what I said. Too bad! I was hoping to get
sympathy from somewhere!
Regards
Gigi

Re: Funny Siri story

2012-02-05 Thread Eric Caron
OK,

I don't know how helpful these are to iPhone users but I have a Siri
story too. I'm not making this up.

First, I sometimes have trouble with Siri commands because Voice Over will be
talking and Siri thinks this is part of what I'm asking. The other day, at
work no less, this happened. My laughter brought in co workers and I was
embarrassed to tell them what happened.

I asked some innocent conversion question but Voice over was talking. Siri
spoke bak the question as"No sex tonight?" Then while I was still recovering
from that surprise question she answered. "No, probably not."

Only my questioning co workers presence in my doorway got me to stop laughing
and wonder how I was going to explain myself out of this mess.

In a effort to make this thread list worthy, I have a tip. I learned listening
to the Vision Australia podcasts that once Siri is activated a two finger
double tap will act like tapping the Siri button. I find this reduces errors
including embarrassing ones.

Is it possible for a blind person to convert tapes to MP3 files using a Mac

Being quite new to this mac stuff, I know very little about time
machine; is there any way to have time machine backup to a cloud
service like Carbonite or something? I know you can use a local hard
disk or whatever but I think I would prefer a remote store for better
security. Is this possible?

Re: help! Lost my ability to see my Iphone in Itunes!

2012-02-05 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hi,

Besides the busy problem in Safari, and the pitch change issue with the new
premium voices, what other problems have you found with voiceover in Lion? The
busy situation is terrible, don't get me wrong, but honestly, thats the only
major flaw I experience on a regular basis in Lion as far as voiceover goes.
As a power user, I'm interested in your response.

Thanks.

Well everyone,

My itunes is terrible since updating to the latest version of Lion and as Lew
has explained to you all Ithe necessary files can't be found to correct Itunes.
I'm still waiting to see if anyone's Itunes has been affected. All I want to
do is to get my I phone 4S to sync wirelessly when I format the phone to get it
working again as it should. I simply can't understand why Itunes should be
fine yesterday and today it's frankly crap excuse the language.

Re: Airport problem solved, but two more questions

2012-02-05 Thread Paul Henrichsen
My partition table is empty. No idea why. I can plug the drive in as a USB
drive and access it. But when plugged into mhy router, nothing shows up in the
partition table and nothing in the toolbar area of finder.
The two links that apple support sent me on configuring back to my mac won't
open. I am told there are too many redirects.
But if I interact with the partition table in the disks tab, I am told the
table is empty.

Re: my itunes is terrible since updating Lion.

2012-02-05 Thread Mr. L. Alexander
in an update to this, these files can be found but an application called
tinkertool is needed to uncover the hidden files.

tinkertool can be found here:

http://bresink.de/osx/0TinkerTool/download.php5

please be aware that if you show all files including hidden files, you will see
critical used files for OS X. these MUST NOT be touched unless you are a
competent systems technician or administrator with recovery experience.

when you load this software, simply copy the tinkertool app to your
applications folder. from here, run it, it will display a welcome and warning
notice in 1 stating that the software can make changes to the system which if
used incorrectly can harm OS X.

the only area to tick is the first box saying "Show hidden and system files"

once done, close the app and restart OS X for changes to take effect. you may
also log out and log in to apply changes.

Please be aware that on your desktop you will see additional files. Don't
delete or touch them.

go to /users/"USER"/library/preferences (/libary/preferences is a hidden folder
for a reason)

now that you are able to gain access to this, now remove the two following
files...

com.apple.itunes.plist
com.apple.itunesHelper.plist.

close the window

go back to applications and launch tinkertool.

uncheck "show hidden and system files"

quit the app, log out and log back in.

now relaunch itunes.

PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS A FIX ONLY FOR OS X 10.7 ONWARDS DUE TO THE WAY THE FINDER
WORKS WITH FILE SECURITY!

other than the additional steps of using tinker tool in OS X 10.7 upwards, the
proceedure is pretty much the same for earlier versions.

Home Sharing question

2012-02-05 Thread Scott Howell
Hi all,

I am trying to figure out how I can share specific content via Home Sharing. I
do not want to expose my entire music catalog, but only specific videos etc. I
have not found a way to do this. The idea is to share these videos so they can
be played on the Apple TV. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can just
share the content I want instead of everything?

Thanks,

Hello Lewis.

I followed some of your instructions such as downloading the software,
installing and restarting my Mac Book Pro. Now I have trouble locating the
correct files as Voice Over will not read the folder structure properly.

I am rather worried about deleting the wrong files so tomorrow (as it's quite
late here) if you could help me to relocate the files in an effort to complete
the process and get Itunes back to normal. I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

Re: my itunes is terrible since updating Lion.

2012-02-05 Thread Steve Holmes
I've only been on the mac a few weeks now and that means I haven't
seen any other OS but for Lion. I thought I could always see the
library folder you speak of here. Now my primary user account is
still admin based; haven't set it down to standard user yet. Dunno if
that makes a difference or not. Plus I can see all those folders from
the shell (terminal) too.

The command line is a great way to get around on unix and linux
environments.

Re: converting tapes to MP3

2012-02-05 Thread Eric Caron
Hello Sarai ,

There are many different ways to do this on the mac. I'll outline for you how
I do it. First I have a regular tape deck on a stereo so I purchased the
Griffin iMike. this usb device lets you plug in the output from your stereo or
from a mike directly into your computer. So once you plug a cable with the
input into the Mike you will select the setting on the Mike for powered or
unpowered. for a stereo it is unpowered. I use a cable with two RCA plugs
attached to the tape output and on the other end a standard 35 millimeter jack
like the one on headphones for the iPhone.

Next I use Amadeus pro. With that program you can input the tape then edit
tracks and much more. I then save in the format of my choice and my tapes are
now digital.

I do the same thing for vinyl records.

There is a slightly outdated podcast on blindcooltech.com I think I called it
Amadeus Pro Vinyl to CD. It covers a lot of the Amadeus Pro basics.

If you have a USB tape player then you will not need the Griffin iMike.

Hope this helps.

Re: converting tapes to MP3

2012-02-05 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

The short answer is, Yes. You should use Audio High-Jack Pro to bring the
music into your Mac. You would need a typical home stereo tape deck or any
tape player with RCA outputs. I guess that you could use a tape player with a
headphone out, but the quality would be diminished when using this method.

My suggestion would be to use the home stereo style tape deck. Connect a
stereo RCA to 1/8 inch headphone jack style cable between the tape deck and the
computer. The RCA jacks connect to the left and right outs from the tape deck
and put the 1/8 inch jack into the line-in of the Mac. Start up Audio
High-Jack Pro, select Line-In as your Input source and begin recording. You
can then use Audacity, Amadeus Pro or Fission as your audio editor to trim
everything up.

That should do it.

Later...

Re: Home Sharing question

2012-02-05 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi Scott,

I've only been able to restrict things when using the Sharing pane of iTunes
Preferences, not when using Home sharing. The problem is that the Apple TV 2
uses Home sharing so I, so far, think the second Library idea is your best
option.

Re: Airport problem solved, but two more questions

2012-02-05 Thread Paul Henrichsen
Hi, guys. I figured it out. The drive must be formatted as a mac journal drive
to be seen by the airport extreme. Once I did that, everything showed up as it
should.
Next thing to figure out is how does one get files onto a macbook pro or air
when not at home from the external drive through the cloud?
As I understand it, it should show up in the shared area in finder.
I'll have to wait until I'm not at home for that one.
It would be really neat if we could access this external drive from our iPhone
or iPad. Hopefully, someone will write an app for that.
That would be neat if you could download a movie or tv show you didn't have on
your iPad or iPhone from the external drive.

Strange wireless network problem

2012-02-05 Thread Bejarano, Rafael P.
Hello,

I'm hoping someone on this list might have some insight into a problem I'm
having when trying to sign onto my home wireless network. I'm using the
airport software on a laptop (iBook g4) as the base station. I have no
problems signing into the account from my iMac, running OSX. When I try to
sign in from the Windows OS, which is installed natively on the same iMac, the
account shows up as having weak signal strength. If I select the account,
another dialog pops up, stating that the network may no longer be available.

Any thoughts or suggestions are most welcome.

Cordially,
Rafael Bejarano

I don't see any sidebar as noted in the below message.

I have share over WAN checked and have set up this using two accounts (Mine

However, I can't figure out how to get the disk tab dialog to see even one

I use carbon copy backup on a firewire drive; so am not going to use time

I was sent two articles by apple concerning setting up the back to my mac

How do I get my airport extreme to see my 3TB drive?

That seems like an old article. As I understand it, back to my mack has been
retired for the new iCloud approach; so you no longer have to leave your mac on
in order to get to the files on the external drive.

Hi. I have a 3TB seegate goflex connected to my airport extreme. When I go
into the disk tab of the utility, I don't see any partitions in the table.
I don't see any sidebar as noted in the below message.
I have share over WAN checked and have set up this using two accounts
(Mine and my wife's) for the present.

1: Is there any way to rename a drive once it’s discovered from the
Airport. Just pressing Enter doesn’t work like it does with drives
 directly connected.
2: I have also attached me HP printer to the Airport Extreme. My mini
can find it easily, but the Windows 7 and Win XP boxes don’t seem to be
able to find it. Am I doing something wrong or does Router printing
 sharing only work with Macs?
 Thanks.

 Hi Bill,

When in Airport Utility, Interact with the Network Group. VO-space on the
Airport Extreme you wish to work with. Press the Edit button to get at
the configuration options. Select the Disk tab to see the options
available in that pane. They are similar to those in the previous AU.
Make sure that both your partitions are shared in the format you prefer.
 Update if necessary.

Your partitions
will then appear in the window whe

redownloading lion from app store

Hi everyone, I am trying to reinstall my native lion mba without using wired
ethernet. Is there a way to redownload lion from the appstore when it is
already installed on your system?
Thanks in advance
