Elon seems to be very anti-subsidy. He has made multiple statements to
that effect over the years when asked. Even ones that would add funds to
his own companies.

Obviously if the government is giving out money you'd rather them give it
to you instead of your competition. But as has been already said, the
money is rarely free. I've gotten the impression that Musk is just tired
of the government picking winners and losers and just want them to get out
of the subsidy business. I'm not a great fan of Musk in many ways, but in
this case I'd generally agree.

If we're actually being honest, there really aren't many square miles in
the US that can't get a usable broadband connection, assuming you believe
like I do that Starlink is more than usable. I have a starlink dish which
I use on the rare occasions when my primary home link is down. I don't
remember the last time I saw a link test under 100mb/s when I've swapped
over to it. Latency is low enough I that I can't tell for sure which link
I'm on.

It’s hard to keep track, like I can’t remember are they going to ban Tiktok, or
save it?

And are EVs good, or bad?

And what if all the fiber techs are illegal immigrants?

As far as BEAD, even without a DOGE department, a lot of people might agree
that BEAD is way too big and a waste of taxpayer money. But is it too late to
get the genie back in the bottle? Normally I would think so. But the next

outside the box, so maybe BEAD could get cancelled or at least get a severe

I've been using ChatGPT for all kinds of "write this letter" or write a "multi
page document describing something". It's a good ToC with a few good
sentences/paragraphs. It does so much heavy lifting.

The article suggests someone is doing the same, but for their job application.
Why write a story describing yourself when a bot will do it for you?

It seems likely that he’ll receive pressure to include Starlink in BEAD, since,
you know, Elon. It seems opaque whether he’ll see the value of

that’s what I want for Christmas, in case he calls and asks.

Maybe I should upgrade my phone so I don’t miss the call.

Last I heard, Tiktok had some kind of deadline, which they were not
planning to meet.

EVs. I do not know whether Elon cares or not. I was pretty sure OMT
thought they were evil, but when he hooked up with Elon, maybe he's
going to change hit mind?

As far a BEAD is concerned, I was always under the impression free money
was good. Who knows?

And what if all the fiber techs are illegal immigrants?

As far as BEAD, even without a DOGE department, a lot of people might
agree that BEAD is way too big and a waste of taxpayer money. But is
it too late to get the genie back in the bottle? Normally I would

I've been using ChatGPT for all kinds of "write this letter" or write a
"multi page document describing something". It's a good ToC with a few
good sentences/paragraphs. It does so much heavy lifting.

The article suggests someone is doing the same, but for their job
application. Why write a story describing yourself when a bot will do it
for you?

I was a Reagan conservative. I think Ronnie would be confused if he were
reincarnated in today’s political landscape, like one of those movies where
someone comes out of suspended animation 50 years in the future. Maybe like
the Woody Allen movie Sleeper where in the future chocolate and fat are health

[AFMUG] removal of WISP equipment

2024-11-18 Thread Ken Hohhof
We are starting to run into cases where customers cancel (most commonly to
get T-Mobile Home Internet) and while the CPE is still perfectly functional
we would not redeploy it. Like a Cambium 450 SM with a reflector dish (as
opposed to a 450b). So we don't want it back, and don't want to send a tech
out to remove it.

Sometimes customers insist they want us to take it off their house. Is
there some legal obligation for us to do this? I think if you discontinue
DISH or DirecTV and want the sat dish taken down, they don't come do it
(unless maybe you pay to have it done).

Didn't it use to be that Dish/Direct required you to remove and send
