Thanks for your responses to my quesiton Bill and Patrick. Makes sense. My
brother is buying a Surly Steamroller. He called and asked me the same
question but I didn't know the answer. Evidently the Steamroller comes
equipped with a fixed/free hub. I've heard of them but never actually looked
at one.

I've considered converting one side of my Quickbeam to fixed just to try out
the whole fixed gear "craze" but I haven't gone through with it. Maybe I'll
try my bro's Steamroller first just to give it a whirl. If I like it, maybe
I'll go ahead and put a fixed cog on the flip side of the QB.
