I think we're making a mountain out of a molehill with this issue. The practice of using a fixed cog on a freewheel hub with a bb lockring or loctite is a well-accepted method (hardly a kludge, is what i'm saying) of making a fixed drivetrain, especially on a bike such as the Quickbeam which has two powerful handbrakes and doesn't rely on resisting the drivetrain as a method of braking. The experience of Jim E. and Sheldon (RIP) with their QB's demonstrates this.
