Fascinating stuff.

As you said, my interest in Chef is now reduced to "what kind of
sleaze do they engage in?", and I've lost any interest in their technical
merits.

Had the efforts been well presented on list, I probably would have
investigated, being a sucker for shiny and new.

The secretive aspect also tells me the software is inferior, good
software wants a higher profile, not secrecy.
