Shipit!
For someone fortunate enough to have a broadband connection, this isn't a big
deal. But for the rest where broadband is at a premium, a free CD is a
godsend.

Back in 2005, when Hoary was released, I'm still using a dialup connection.
Back then, I have to go search for pirates before I could get my hands on an
installer (yes, in the Philippines, Linux gets pirated too!). FC3 was
released, but I can only get FC1. Linspire was established but they're only
offering Lindows.

So an up-to-date ISO was a blessing. That started the cult. Back in 2005,
there's a lot more superior distros, but a lot of people chose Ubuntu because
it's free - literally - and updated.

I've tried Debian and Gentoo too, but the conflicts are unnerving. The Ubuntu
Code of Conduct made me stay. I haven't been told to "_RTFM!!!_" for the
duration of my stay. People are polite and very helpful.

In Fedora, yum breaks something, it's just a matter of when. And getting my
mp3s and wmvs working is scary. Adding a 3rd party repository isn't
recommended and I've been warned before that it'll break something sooner or
later. But that was back then, I believe yum's better and stable now. I'm
used to apt now, but I'll still try Fedora. I can't deny that a lot of
companies prefer a sys admin who has a

And lastly, the community is great! I've met nice people, people who became my
friends. I have the tendency to be a bit snobbish at times, and my friends
kept in line and reminded me the CoC. I can't ask for more. I'm satisfied,
and I'm staying!

For a techie, there's a lot of stuff to do here too. This is where I've
refined my skills. There isn't a day I haven't learned anything.

For a dev, check the forums. Check the wiki. There's a lot of projects you'd
want to get involved too. Projects that'll also improve your skills.

and I'm staying.
