If you use alsa please try recording arecord, else with rec, or if you
like it grafic programm something like snd. To see if other programms
can recrod from you sound card.

Maybe some other programm is alreaddy using you sound card. you can
check that with fuser /dev/dspx where x is the dsp you sound card uses.
If you have only one sound card x is usually 0.
