As a side note: The Chicago Manual of Style is in parts grossly outdated by todays' standards. Most of it still applies, and I think that the section about ellipsis is O.K. But there are many paragraphs and modes of reasoning in the manual that provoke nostalgia, but are otherwise useless (mostly stuff related to typesetting). I think that Donald Knuth had pointed out a few adorable examples of CMS inadequacies in his books (and probably more in social meetings ;-). Cheers, Kuba Ober
