Mark,
My problem is, it's great saying "We're ahead of schedule" Wilko said
that when he won the 2nd division championship. But he then kicked on
and only two seasons later won us the 1st Division. My problem with
saying "Ahh yes but we're ahead of schedule" as a defensive mechanism
is that on paper it sounds great, realistically it doesn't work like
that.
At The Debacle we had THE best chance we're POSSIBLY going to get for
years to get back up. Blackwell blew it. Plain and simple. As you know
I've defended him within reason all season, but that was sh1t and who
knows, that could be it for YEARS. Birmingham have just invested in one of
the best Strikers in this division and don't look to be struggling
financially like we (obviously) were when we came down. WBA have a settled
squad that doesn't look like being ripped apart and SUnderland, for their
complete ineptitude last season, have what would be classed as a very good
Championship team. Add to that Leicesters resurgence towards the back end
of last season. Coventry hanging on to Adams and coming good again late
last season, Preston hanging on to the annoying little dwarf and perennial
'big' teams looking like they are getting their houses in order (I think
Colin Calderwood is an excellent choice by Ipswich BTW) and suddenly we're
nowhere near looking like a top dog UNLESS we buy well in the summer and
KB plays to his strengths. SOmething that he certainly did not do for the
last dozen games last season, culminating in handing promotion to a
distincly average, over hyped long ball team.
