There are several versions...I don't know which is accurate.  Either
way, it was Voltaire.

"I may not agree with what you say, but I will fight tooth and nail for
your right to say it."

"I may disagree with what you have to say, but I shall defend, to the
death, your right to say it."

(I think the second version is closer...I remember it as "I may not
agree with what you have to say, but I will defend with my life your
right to say it".)

Anytime anyone starts an argument about censorship and freedom of
speech, I remember this, and I remember that it (or something similar)
has been said by some of the greatest philosophers, politicians, and
thinkers throughout history.

Freedom of speech is not to be trifled with.
