> NONE of the Legacy car makers are making a profit on their [EVs] It's going to be hard to decipher whether EVs are profitable or not for the big automakers, unless you're a CPA and willing to dig really deep into their accounting. Their public announcements are "spin doctored" to suit whatever they think Wall Street and Washington want to hear.
*Any* new product automatically loses money until they've sold enough units to earn back the development costs. That often takes years. Most "new" ICE vehicles are largely built from existing parts, for which the development costs have already been paid. But EVs are largely new designs, so the development costs are higher. It's to be expected that it will take longer for them to become "profitable". Look at how many years it took for Tesla to make a profit. I dread the new administration's actions with regards to EVs. We could see a repeat of 2000, when the new Bush administration effectively killed the EV movement. The rebates were removed, the tax credits eliminated, and the automakers all bailed out of their EVs as fast as possible.
