Interesting, but IMO it would be surprising if ICEVs got cheaper. The big automakers have been purging affordable cars from their US lineups for a while now. If the feds water down FMVSS and emissions standards for them, they could sell the old, less safe and more polluting designs that they've traditionally offered in lower income / third world countries. If they do, I doubt that they'll pass much of the savings on to customers. More likely they'll pocket the difference as higher profit for stockholders and managers. I don't see fuel geting cheaper either, for the same reasons. When the feds open up the rest of the wildlife preserves for drilling, the oily boys are likely to buy up the leases and stockpile them for the future, rather than drilling right now. The savings they get from being less regulated, or unregulated, again aren't likely to "trickle down" to the pump. They'll go to - wait for it - managers and stockholders. If they do drill more, I expect they'll export it. How convenient that they have all those new European LNG storage depots since 2022. That said, there are some pretty wild-eyed economic ideas floating round the burn-it-all-down crowd. The dollar is up for now, but economists are getting nervous. A crash / depression / recession could change these equations. Or not ... David Roden, EVDL moderator & general lackey To reach me, don't reply to this message; I won't get it.
