To be fair to Elon, I consider that the best use of any government support is to encourage the proliferation of EV charging infrastructure. Tesla has shown how to make an EV at low enough cost to make a profit. It is up to the legacy automakers to copy what Tesla has done. They need to give up on the idea of simply ripping out the ICE drivetrain and adding battery, etc. They need to simply and rationalize their designs and production processes. They'll never be able to innovate fast enough if they continue to use federated systems designed and produced by other companies.
