Tom,
Since your boat is 29', this shouldn't be a concern, but..
Geico required me to get an updated survey before they would continue my
policy (expired 3/10/26).
Not wanting to shell out a big boat buck for a survey, I checked around.
Progressive said they are not writing any new polices where my boat is
kept (zip code 27889) for any boats over 35 feet. That included
liability only.
So with new survey in hand, I've been renewed with Geico for 2026.

State Farm gave me double the valuation for my 1979 36-1 Talisman
for ½ of the cost. This was with no survey. They were also the only
company in the country that would touch my 1963 Hatteras 34 Sport
Fish. That had a survey, and they did it for the full amount. I
could not even get anyone to do a simple liability, let alone full
insurance. My surveyor said his experience with Progressive is good
luck getting $$ out of them.

I’ve purchased two 80s era boats in the past 5 years and have gone
with Progressive. They haven’t had any issues with my surveys (and
the surveys found a number of issues).
They’ve also covered a long distance tow home, outside of the max
distance cap, and paid for a haul out when I ran around, both times
they were cooperative.

Good morning all -
I know this isn’t a new topic, but given the semi-recent
requirement for V & C independent surveys for insurance, I’m
shopping for an alternative to Geico.
Recently received instructions from them to completely open up /
“repair” about 4’ of my stbd topside due to a somewhat higher
moisture reading. Even the surveyor said it wasn’t an issue.
I could go on belly-aching about other ‘directives’ from them,
but suffice to say am looking for your collective wisdom …and
other companies !
