This has been a great thread to read with a lot of really good experiences
shared. Thank you!

I just renewed my policy on Nina with Geico Marine. I've had this policy
for 10 yrs with no claims and the 25% per year vanishing deductible
vanished 6 yrs ago. This year they required a survey. Fortunately, a year
ago a potential buyer had a survey performed but I never received a copy.
So, I contacted that surveyor and he sold it to me for $100. It was a
great survey. He kindly modified the date to be February this year. It
valued Nina more than what the currently agreed value has been on the
policy. Geico quickly renewed the policy.

I was very intrigued by Richard's mention of adding a rider to a homeowners
policy. I am also a USAA member so I called them. They transferred me
around twice and the result was not enough personal property coverage to be
worth it, plus it would not include liability. I think the reason is
because the boat is in Florida. The USAA agent then transferred me over to
Progressive who underwrites boat policies for them in this state, and still
getting the USAA discounts. Their quote with the same policy parameters
ended up quoting $250 more per year, and the vanishing deductible of the
same 25% per year reduction would essentially reset for my scenario making
it not worth it to switch carriers.

Fair winds,

Brian
