Thx Rick! a lot of good information. It certainly is beamy but my first boat was a DS16, and then a Westerly Nomad 22, and now this, so it makes sense it seems so large in comparison. It was sold to us as a 27, but the ownership corrected that, lol. The price was right, and they did some good repairs. We even took a measuring tape from the bow pulpit, to the stern rail, even then it appeared to be just shy of 27. Thx again, have a great day! I'm guessing that your boat was probably made in Rhode Island. It is a 26, hull number 027. I don't believe there was more than one mark for the 26. "0477" in the HIM indicates the keel was laid (actually the hull was molded) in April, 1977. So you have a 1977 model boat. There is another 26 in a marina near where I keep my boats, and it IS a BIG 26 footer. The interior compares pretty favorably with the 30 mk1 I have been aboard. The beam is about a foot wider than the beam of a 27 and well over a foot wider than the beam of my 25. The brochure on the C&C Photo Album site indicates it was marketed as being "bigger" and "roomier" than similar sized boats. Sort of a "pocket cruiser" product positioning. The specs on the Photo Album show the boat to have about a 39% ballast ratio vs. 40% FOR A 27 MK2 AND 41% for the 25 mk1, so it should be a reasonably stiff boat. The sailing calculator gives it a higher comfort rating than the 27 mk2 - perhaps because of the extra beam, but also perhaps because the weight used for calculation is almost 1000 pounds more than the weight shown on the brochure for the 26. TV is helpful, we use the leaf antenna which has been working great. Put it on deck thru the front hatch, and I have even closed the hatch on the cable without hurting it. Another question is regarding offshore rating which my internet search indicated was not very good. What makes an offshore rating, and what would you guys consider the offshore abilites of the 26? There are 4 recognized formats altogether, each similar but with variations in the data fields. If your HIN had ended with an A for example, it would have been produced in August 1982, but still been considered a 1983 boat since the next model year starts in August. Since you boat was built in May, it was May 1983 since the model and calendar year coincide from January to July.
