Hi, Alan:
Thank you. I got Hey Siri back. I could swear that the 3 choices
weren't there when I looked earlier and I was looking for more than 1
item and I was double tapping on Hey Siri. The double tapping problem
is still here and it might have been the problem earlier. It took about
a half dozen tries for the phone to recognize my double taps. I got the
phone 2 years ago yesterday and, as far as I know, I'm double tapping
the same as I always have and the phone has just gone nuts.
Thanks ,
Margaret

Hi Margaret,
Go to Settings, Siri & Search, Listen for “Hey Siri”. The setting choices here
are 1. “Siri” or “Hey Siri” or 2. “Hey Siri” or 3. Off
I have mine set to option 2, Hey Siri. When I posted the earlier instructions
you are referencing, I believe I was still running iOS 16.X so I expect I made
a pig's breakfast of them.
I'm not sure if you will be successful changing any of your settings if you are
having difficulty with the tapping gesture. You can certainly try changing the
hey Siri setting to see if you can get what you want.
Good luck and happy Thanksgiving.

Good Afternoon:
I updated to IOS 17.1 on my SE 2 the other day and am trying to work my way through the
changes from 16.x to 17.1 to solve problems I'm having with the update. I had Hey Siri
on and wanted it and not Siri, but am having a problem with Alan's instructions. What do I
do after "Listen for and select Hey Siri instead of Siri?" There's no Siri by
itself. Right now, when I do not press the hone button, and invoke Siri by voice, Siri
responds with Hey Siri as well as Siri. I think it may have something to do with the new
follow-up feature I think I heard about.
The phone wants me to finish setting up Apple Pay, which I don't want. I may
have an expired credit card that deleting it and putting in the new info might
make the phone happy, but I'm having a problem with double tapping since the
update and I was hoping to solve the double tapping thing first. Do I have to
solve these before I can fix Hey Siri vs. Siri?
Many thanks,
Margaret

James,
For those of us who have updated to iOS 17 and prefer Hey Siri, we can go to
Settings, Siri and search, and Listen for and select Hey Siri instead of Siri
and Hey Siri to have it work as it did in earlier versions of iOS.

I love Hey Ciri. Not one single time in almost one year has any thing
accidently triggered Ciri.
All of my other devices, especially Alexa go off several times a day. I always
have the TV, radio, or an Audio book going and Ciri has never noticed. Alexa
sometimes, will start playing music or some podcast because she thought she
heard the wake word followed by a request.
If Apple has removed the Hhey in Hey Ciri, I will never update to any version
of IOS 17.
Just my opinion but it seems to me like Apple has come out with one of the
worst versions of IOS in V17 since the conception of the I Phone.

It’s also possible that since they got rid of the hay in hey Siri, if your
friend has that enabled, Siri could be listening and hear anything and quit,
because it thinks you’re doing something. Try disabling hands-free Siri and
just use the side button and see if that helps. I never have used hey Siri
except on my HomePod. I have no problem pressing the side button.

Give that feedback to Apple. The new thing of Siri being available for follow

Pretty pointless.
I find nothing in Siri settings to disable this.
Though, he might try turning on showing a transcript of what Siri says, then
maybe VO can read the whole response, but that is a poor work around at best
even if it works.

Subject: Siri and iOS 17 problem
I am trying to help a friend with a problem that has popped up since iOS 17.1.
He uses Siri to get his sports scores. He says that, as she is reading back the
information, any little noise will stop her from reading. It is like Siri has
an open mic all the time. This behavior just started recently. He thought that
an update fixed it, and it worked well for about a day, but then went back to
this problematic behavior. Any insights on how to solve this problem would be
much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
