Hi Margaret, Go to Settings, Siri & Search, Listen for “Hey Siri”. The setting choices here are 1. “Siri” or “Hey Siri” or 2. “Hey Siri” or 3. Off
I have mine set to option 2, Hey Siri. When I posted the earlier instructions you are referencing, I believe I was still running iOS 16.X so I expect I made a pig's breakfast of them. I'm not sure if you will be successful changing any of your settings if you are having difficulty with the tapping gesture.
