True, for 2016 it's "Installed with the deflectors at or above the bottom of
the structural member to a maximum of 22 in. (550 mm) below the ceiling/roof
deck where the sprinkler is installed in conformance with 8.6.5.1.2" my reason
for commenting was item 2 allows 22" even if it's above the bottom of the
structural member if the obstruction rules can be followed which wasn't how I
had read your comment but I may have been mistaken.

Crossing editions, Mike, 10. 2. 7. 2 is referenced in the '22 edition, and
Jackie was discussing the '16. Everything in the '16 edition, chapter 10 deals
with underground, and there is no such section. If Jackie can apply the '22
edition, then

can be satisfied which should be easy enough at a 2" difference in elevation.

Jackie, I echo the thoughts of Anthony, Matt, and my good friend Cliff. All the
sections I note are from the '16 edition of NFPA 13 Obstructed construction per
§3. 7. 1, §A. 3. 7. 1(1), as you have concrete beams, spaced between 3' and 7½"
apart.

Jackie,

I echo the thoughts of Anthony, Matt, and my good friend Cliff.

All the sections I note are from the '16 edition of NFPA 13

  * Obstructed construction per §3.7.1, §A.3.7.1(1), as you have concrete
beams, spaced between 3' and 7½" apart.

  * Sprinklers required in each bay, per §8.6.4.1.2(3), as it's not possible
to reach the 22" maximum in (1) or (2) as the beam depth is 24"

Hope that lines up with what others have to say. And, except for the section
numbers this is fairly unchanged in the '22 edition.

sincerely,
