to share a single window in VNC. But it does not seem
to work. Has anyone got this thing to work?
Also, I did not notice any code changing the Hooks.
Apparently, if we only like to share a single window,
we should not set globa

I've been using VNC successfully (but intermittently) for a few months from
Windows 2000 clients to a Linux server on my home office LAN.
Now I'm trying to to extend beyond the LAN and having some difficulty. It's
hard to figure out what is happening because I can't simply look at both
monitors.
Yes. However, on the market in Australia, people think that afirewalls
fix all. They do not. Most people that i know in the industry have a
personal firewall. 90% do not know how to configure them. Most of them do
not know what NAT is either, butg this is a seperate story.

Can I ever back this up.
I am a VAR for a Sales/CRM software called SalesLogix. This program is

Yes, I wholeheartedly agree.
However, I have worked with numerous "silly" people who later question
why their respective machines were broken into and tampered with, and
eventually turned over to "the dark side". If VNC is to be used, suitable

Hi,
I've modified (slightly) the Java VNC viewer to automate the login process.
Is it possible to update WinVNC to serve up the new JAR file through its'
web server? I'd rather not have to run another process just for serving up
the applet.
Thanks,

Check your service control manager to see if "VNC Server" is Installed.
if it is, is it running?
Step Two
If it isn't installed, use task manager to kill Winvnc.exe then use the

Michael,

Hey group,
Something occurred to me while toying with a laptop for a dial in
user. The WinVNC icon doesn't appear until some form of network connection
is made. If one were casually observing the lack on an icon, one might
think there was a problem with VNC when there really was a problem
I use just TightVNC. It comes with Default configurations for fast and slow
connections. I connect without compression at work, I connect with
compression from home.

I have RH7.2 on two boxes and some Windows machines. I am running VNC on the RH
boxes as a user (not as root). I'm using Netscape 4.76 in Linux and IE5.5sp2 in
Windows.
VNC works fine with both the client and with a browser connecting to Windows. I
can also connect from a Windows and Linux box
Hi,

There's a brief howto at AT&T's VNC site:
http://www.uk.research.att.com/vnc/winvnc.html
Scroll down (or search for) "AuthHosts"
Taking a look at the mailing list archives will have a bit on this too..
Just in case you're tempted, I wouldn't recommend using ZoneAlarm on a W2K
machine. Causes blue screen of death (well documented in archives).
AuthHosts is purely a registry thing, TightVNC doesn't make it available in
Advanced settings.
