In Xubuntu 11.04 command "shutdown" hangs the system. Commands "reboot"
and "poweroff" when used with --force option work well. In previous
version of Xubuntu (10.10) shutdown worked well.

Ah and i forgotten that you have to use pm-utils. And to put it on sleep use
command
pm-suspend
which invokes that script and calls s2ram i think. Tested on debian. Should
work on any system becasue all bugs were almost the same.

I think it's problem with alsa. In kernel 2.6.34 alsa modules are in
version 1.0.22.1 which works good. In newer kernels alsa is in version
1.0.23 and there are problems with it. I tried also 2.6.36 vanilia
kernel, same problem. My hardware is the same - lenovo y530 with HDA
Intel.

Its a similar problem, (resolv.conf no longer a symlink) but I think its
related to running the openvpn manager and bailing out half way through
a vpn setup.
Apologies I dont have anything more conclusive, but I do recall it
breaking resolv.conf and thus DNS which I manually fixed.

I can confirm this problem with the latest Jaunty (9.04) release on a
Macbook Pro 3.1: the screen is black upon resume. I'm using the
2.6.28-11-generic kernel and I'm not using any proprietary Nvidia
drivers.
