What Raymond is getting at is there are 3 jacks on the lefthand side. One
is for Headphones/Digital, Line In and Microphone. Either of these ports
can be configured to whatever pulse audio want them to be. The HDMI

There is two soundcards in your computer, once is the realtek ALC889 and
the other is the Nvidia MCP77/78 HDMI for the digital out put. I to am
wondering if the alsa divers are not picking the correct soundcard and
cant see auto-mute function for the nvidia card and disregards the
realtek one.

Yes the same happens with me Christian. If you open up a terminal and
enter aslamixer you will see that Auto-Mute Mode is missing. This is
what triggers the Mute Unmute for the speakers. Im just not sure how
the whole thing works myself as im not a coder, but I know one thing it
was working fine

This is not just Acer Aspire 8930 specific. I also have an Acer Aspire
which has the Realtek ALC1200 chipset and I had to include options snd-
hda-intel model=auto to the alsa-base.conf file to get that one to work
correctly.

stereo left and right, try adding the following to alsa-base.conf
Open up a terminal:
sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
add at the bottom of the conf file:

I have an Nvida 9600 GT with dual monitor setup. I have found that if I $ sudo
nvidia-settings after 2 or 3 attempts it does what I am asking but I get the
following errors in terminal:

This is still an issue on my Acer Aspire 8930, I have the latest updates
installed and running 11.10.

one and then restarted banshee, clicked on the purchased music subscribe
button and all works

Just to add to the mix, at work I use my Ubuntu 11.10 machine for
receiving emails as we get thousands a day and all of these need
printing for a paper, trail. The printer that is use is HP Laser Jet
1320, which is shared over the network via Windows shar
Even when the printer was connected via USB to my ubuntu machine I had
the same issue. The printer is required by the windows machine hence
the reason why its connected directly and not to my ubuntu 11.10
computer.
