There is two soundcards in your computer, once is the realtek ALC889 and
the other is the Nvidia MCP77/78 HDMI for the digital out put.  I to am
wondering if the alsa divers are not picking the correct soundcard and
cant see auto-mute function for the nvidia card and disregards the
realtek one.

I did run a test and disabled the Nvidia card and the same issue applies
no Auto-Mute.
