Yes the same happens with me Christian. If you open up a terminal and enter aslamixer you will see that Auto-Mute Mode is missing. This is what triggers the Mute Unmute for the speakers. Im just not sure how the whole thing works myself as im not a coder, but I know one thing it was working fine in 11.10 which suggests to me that it may have something to do with kernal 3.2 vs 3.0, with our realtek chipset.. who knows. Just hope this bug gets more dev eyes on it. Making 12.04 look really bad. :(
