Larry; a couple of coats of good old Turtle wax after the paint has cured
will insure that the paint doesn't come off when removing the tape. A hair
dyer or heat gun eases the job and is double insurance.

Hello Netters,
Another very simple resolve is to use a 3M Vinyl tape that's used for
marking out
basket ball courts, very simple to use and pliable in any color and does a
good job. Usually can be found at a fastening supplier.
Does not leave a residue when removed. Good Luck and

enough to cover the gap, on a piece of plastic sheet, on a flat surface. Do
it when you can catch it when it has not completely cured. You want it to be
