Applications as a 15December 2024 date - not today’s date which left me
confused.

Sorry, I know nothing about Apples or Mac other than some of those I find
in my grocery store are very tasty.
That warning apparently does not work there like it does in Windows or
Linux.

You’ll have to download the new version from a web browser. The link for the
newest Apple Silicon version points to sourceforge:

Dragging the new app version to your Applications folder wil
While there are newer versions available, you do not need to upgrade to
solve your problem. Simply click on "Open Anyway". That message indicates
that the last time GnuCash was running your computer shut down before you
closed GnuCash.

You’re using an old version of gnucash. What system version of macOS are you
using? You might have to upgrade gnucash (currently at 5.10). Make sure you
don’t have the gnucash file open already, and if gnucash crashes when you click
the “open anyway” button, then you certainly have a system vers
