you downloaded the wrong version. You have the ARM (Apple Silicon cpu)
version. You need the Intel version.

     Ok, Thanks David & David.
I managed to download the Apple Silicon version 5.10-1. It comes into
     Applications as a 15December 2024 date - not today’s date which left
   me
     confused.
However, it seems to have populated all my data so I am more than
     relieved!
Thanks for all your advice and help.
     Owen.

You’ll have to download the new version from a web browser. The link

     for

the newest Apple Silicon version points to sourceforge:

   ble%2
     9/5.10/Gnucash-Arm-5.10-1.dmg/download

Dragging the new app version to your Applications folder will

     install it.

I think the new version will read the old data file. Changing the

     app

     itself doesn’t touch the data.
To be safe, rename the old version of gnucash just to keep it

     around, and

make a copy of your data file before you attempt to open it in

     gnucash 5.10.

Make sure you know which version of gnucash is which, so you don’t

     open

the older version unless your certain you want to.

I cannot find an update option on Gnucash. Should I uninstall and

reinstall the latest version? If so, will it automatically upload

     all my

     data?

Sorry to appear so challenged in this area but I am very nervous

     about

     losing almost a years data.

Thanks so much for your advice. Really appreciated.

You’re using an old version of gnucash. What system version of

     macOS

are you using? You might have to upgrade gnucash (currently at

     5.10). Make

sure you don’t have the gnucash file open already, and if gnucash

     crashes

when you click the “open anyway” button, then you certainly have a

     system

     version/gnucash version incompatibility.
